He graduated from Bruce High School in Gilmer, Texas. During his school years he joined Friendship Baptist Church of Gilmer, Texas, and accepted Jesus Christ.
After graduating, Johnny was drafted into the United States Army. After serving his country he moved to Dallas, Texas and started a career driving the city buses. He later moved to Austin, Texas and continued his career in driving for Capital Metro. During that period, he met the love of his life Mrs. Ora Walker, in which they had been married for 28 years.
Johnny Fred Waters leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Ora Waters, one son, Amadeus, his wife Erin, and granddaughter Nicola Elizabeth. Five siblings, three brothers, and two sisters. They are Andrew Waters and wife Teleda of Gilmer, Texas. Russell Waters and Harvey O’Neal Waters both of Gilmer, Texas. Tonie Marie Waters of Grand Prairie, Texas; Paulette Turner and husband Freddie Turner of Gilmer, Texas. Two aunts, Gertha Arteberry of Desoto, Texas; Carrie Mae Waters of Houston, Texas. Three uncles, Robert Arteberry, Nathaniel Hollins, and Daniel Hollins all of Dallas Texas; stepchildren, Imtiyaaz Aleem, Kennard Turner, Najla Rashad, and Margaret Owens. And a host of nieces, nephews, and cousin.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Kenneth Earl Waters, Mavis Waters, and Bobby Lee Waters.
A celebration of life for Johnny will be held Friday, July 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Weed-Corley-Fish Parkcrest, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, Texas 78731.
