Hey John, it’s been 14 years since you passed. I still wear dads old Fire Control hat to remember you by. I remember me and mom going to the station for family dinners and I would hang out with you. You were pretty much an uncle to me, I still wish I could’ve spent more time around you. My last memory was of you in the hospital, I was just a little kid so I didn’t really know why, I just went along with it. I remember me, mom, and dad came to visit you one day and I sat in the bed with you and we played on your PlayStation all day and joked around. We had so much fun. Now that I’m older and know what was going on im so thankful that you spent time with me like that and left me with that great memory. You really were like an uncle to me. I miss you John, we all do. I can’t wait till we all meet up in heaven. 


I just want Johns family to know that me and John had a secret that no one knew. I was a close friend with John. Me and him went to Sea World San Antonio one day just spur of the moment. I remember we brought back souvenoirs for his mom dad and little brother Mando. There is something that me and John spoke about before his passing and that is he knew that he would not be alone in heaven. Me and John were pregnant and lost the baby. John and I knew that he had a child waiting for him in heaven. So, to his family just know that John is not alone and he is there with one of his children looking down and watching over us. I love you John and miss you and I always wondered if you still had that red fire truck from exxon i bought you that was in your room at the apartments on riverside??



Can I see you and Bradford in my dreams soon? I loved the last meeting we had.

6 years have passed big bro I'm in tears while I'm writing this god took dad November 2 2011 y'all are probably laughing an catching up on a lot of things..I miss you si much bro I wish I could of spent time wit you more or have had fun times like I hear an read about as for your kids they treat us like strangers mom and dad always wanted to spend time with them even before they got sick.but Christine always had somthing planned even before mom an dad got sick they use to call an leave messages every weekend but.no returned phone calls.I'm as lost an confused as I wuz then I never got the chance to feel that big brother little brother bound I continue to shed countless of tears.for you an dad.your Nova is like a land mark at the old house I use to sit on the nova tryin to talk to god but I all he answered with wuz more pain I truly miss you big bro all I can say is see you soon



I just found out about John's passing.  It came as a shock to me, and I want the family to know that they are in my prayers.  I was a Senior Firefighter at TCFC while SrFF Rios was in the academy and had a few opportunities to work with him.  He was an inspiration to everyone and gave you the incentive to go the extra mile.  It was obvious his passion was in providing services to others, and he did so with a sharp mind, able body, and willing attitude.  He will be missed greatly.  Once again, you are all in my prayers.



I remember the last conversation we had .It was like yesterday. I can still hear your voice. One thing you told me to do for you was when I saw your mom to give her a big hug and tell her this is from Son  John. I was like sheâs gonna think Iâm crazy. You always expressed  that you loved her so much. I told you not to talk like that you could do it yourself. You were in Kimo Therapy  so we had to hang up and you said to  call you later or to page you  but I didnât call you and you didnât call me. The night before your passing  I woke up around twelve a.m. and I felt like I couldnât breath and the first thing that came out of my mouth was your name. One thing I regret and always will was not getting up and praying for you. The next morning  as I was taking  my children to school I was still thinking about how weird that experience felt the night before, and thatâs  when I received the phone call that you had passed that night. Till this day I always  wonder if that was your way of letting me know you were gone. Hearing that you had passed mad a num feeling in my heart .  I didnât know how to react or what direction to go. I didnât want to show any emotion because I didnât want anyone to know how much you meant to me. Sometimes if I close my eyes I can still see your face that big smile you always had. Telling me that if I ever needed something  that I could always count on you . You were just that kind of person Loving, Kind, Sweet,  Giving ,Funny,  Happy person full of life and so much more. Just a Blessing. Thanks to you mom  and dad for sharing such a wonderful son . So if anyone has every said angels donât existed they messed out on knowing you. Miss You.



I did not know about John's passing. He was one of the most wonderful medics that ever worked with me.  He was so dedicated to his work and loved helping people.  I loved working with him. He always made me laugh. When I met John, I was going thru a rough divorce after 30 yrs. of marriage and John helped me laugh about it instead of crying.   He was such a blessing to the emergency service world.   I know he is with the angels in heaven, taking care of anyone who needs him.  God's Blessings to his family. John ,I can't believe it's been a year since you've been gone. I always think of you and how much fun we had when we were growing up. I miss your laugh and your big hugs. It hurt to lose someone as awesome as John.  I worked with him at Cerqa the South location.  He was alway really nice to me.  I really did not know many people in Austin so he was always checking on me to make sure I had something to do.  I would take my horse up there on Fridays and I remember the day he finally said can I ride her.  He got on back of her and rode all over the pasture next to the office, he had a smile like I had never seen before.  From that point on he would always ask when I was bringing Honey up.  Then we were moved to the North location, things changed for all of us.  John was working to get bigger and better things in his life, all he talked about was becoming a Fire Fighter, then that day came and he pulled up in the Big Red Fire Truck, the look on his face was just like the day he got up on that horse.  He made me really proud to be his friend, he loved his daughters and there was never a time that he was not talking about how they were doing and how much he loved them.  They don't make people like John any more.  I will truly miss him and I wish his daughters and family all the best in the world.  God Bless you.  John thanks for blessing my life.

John had a big heart and a warm smile! Everyone who knew him, knew he never met a stranger and that he loved to help people. His time here with his family and friends was way too short, but in that short time, he touched a lot of souls. John's family was very important to him and I know they will miss him greatly but he will always be with them in their hearts.

I just received news today of Johns' passing, I am so sorry for your/our loss. I met John when we attended Mendez where we shared our love for Iron Maiden and we swore Heavy Metal would rule forever.   This is unbelievable, I feel like I just saw him taking his daughters to school the other morning. Although I want to celebrate his life, I can't help but to feel a great sadness. May peace be with John and all those who came to know him.

I just heard about John's passing. My prayers go out to him and his family. I attended and graduated school with John and we became friends. Although we lost touch after graduation hearing about his passing is sad. Seeing the marks and love he left on so many shows what a great person he was. Johnston Rams class of 1994 lost a good person.



My condolences to John's family.  I worked with John at Fujikin for a couple of years and his favorite food was home-made breakfast tacos I used to make for him.  He was always positive and we laughed often.  We would go to Elgin to count inventory and then go eat BBQ and he wondered why I was given more food than he.    He will be truly missed!



Firefighter Rios was a positive influence and friend of my son, Dillon Berkman. Rios recruited Dillon as a volunteer firefighter and encouraged him to be of service to others. Dillon is a United States Marine serving in North Carolina. We pray sincerely for the Rios family and will be forever grateful for knowing John.

I just received word of John's passing, and needless to say I was deeply saddened. I first met him in sixth grade and we remained friends throughout junior high and high school, where we played football together. Although we did not keep in touch, we did run into each other from time to time and of course we would both make it a point to stop and say hi. Losing John is such a big loss, but we will always remember our old neighbor who always had a smile on his face.  We always knew when he was coming down the street because we could here his old Nova driving up.  Such a great neighbor and friend he was.  He never seemed to let things get him down.  His daughters adored him and Amanda always wanted to be with daddy.  She was his shadow. He was one to be loved by all.  We will miss you, John.  God Bless and rest in peace, buddy.



John was a friend of our son Rudy William Kachoris, whom we lost in April, 1991.  John was a great comfort to us when we lost Rudy.  I am sorry that he has died and wish I could have said goodbye.  Our prayers are with the family at this time.
