Joey Lyndell Oestrick was born in Austin, TX on July 12, 1958, and used his 64 years on earth to model integrity, the power of love, and the idea that family is the most important thing any of us can strive for in life. Joey passed away after a courageous 6 week battle with aggressive stage IV pancreatic cancer.
Despite still being heartbroken from having lost his wife, Kerry Oestrick, to cancer a mere 17 months before his own diagnosis, Joey fought bravely for the love of his children, Jenna Smellage, Kara Dawson, Cece Oestrick, and George Oestrick. He harnessed the love of his children and grandchildren to fight as valiantly as one could. Joey was surrounded by his children and many of his children-in-law on April 2, 2023 when his spirit left this world to reunite with his wife, parents, and the Lord above in Heaven.
Joey had much to be proud of in life, such as his successful career in IT Management for the State of Texas (Department of Motor Vehicles division) in which he worked closely with Law Enforcement communities to identify ownership of vehicles in which a crime was committed; the beautiful home he and Kerry built on generationally passed down family land that he meticulously cared for and landscaped himself; and multiple legacies of community involvement and sports league volunteering; but his family was always his number one pride and joy. Joey put family above all else, and his love for not only his own children, but their spouses Calvin Smellage, Tory Dawson, Alex Wallen, and Sarah Tseng was apparent to everyone. He was also an incredibly doting Opa to 5 grandchildren, Adelaide Smellage (6), Michael Dawson (6), John Dawson (4), Evelyn Smellage (2), and Arden Kerry Oestrick (7 weeks).
Joey is preceded in death by his father, George Oestrick, his mother, Mary Oestrick, and his wife Kerry Oestrick.
A memorial for Joey Oestrick will be held lakeside on Sunday, April 23rd a little after 2:00 pm at the Bella Lago HOA Private Lakefront Park, with a reception immediately following. Because parking is very limited at the lakefront, we are asking all attendees to park in the upper lot (A) at Austin Ridge Bible Church. Lot A is in the upper most corner of Bee Caves Road and Cuernavaca. From there, a mini bus will continuously shuttle attendees down to the Bella Lago Lakefront, with the last shuttle to the lake departing the church at 2pm
