Joe Allan Carr, of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Joe was born in Oklahoma City in July 11, 1927, and grew up in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents L.W. and Fay Carr, his younger brother Bill, and his wife Maxine.
While still in high school, Joe had a sports column in the Jonesboro Daily Tribune. On his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA. He served aboard the USS Indiana, and the USS West Virginia, where he made runs from San Diego to Pearl Harbor and back. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he obtained a degree in Business Administration from Arkansas State University. During his twenties, he pursued his passion for aviation, obtaining his pilot’s license. He owned several small planes, and enjoyed flying through this lifetime.
In 1950 he began a training program with the J.I.Case company. He remained with Case for his entire career. He worked his way up with the company, and eventually retired as a Vice President
After retiring from Case, Joe started an equipment rental company in Austin, RCH. He worked there for many years alongside his wife Maxine, and son Craig. He also began working in commercial real estate in Texas and Florida.
In his early seventies, he pursued another lifelong dream of owning land in central Texas, growing wheat, and raising cattle.
Joe was happily married to his wife and best friend of 52 years, Maxine, and is survived by his son Craig, his daughter Laurie, and his granddaughter Shayna.
He had an optimistic enthusiasm for life that was contagious to everyone around him. He had an amazing sense of humor, and believed in working hard, doing the right thing, and leaving people better than he found them. He lived independently until age 94, and continued to grow and learn until the end of his days. He loved life, his family, and living a life of adventure.
A Memorial Celebration of Joe’s Life will be on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home.
