Joan Maureen Donder passed away on May 15, 2009 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She resided at Arden Courts in Austin for the past two years. Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Arden Courts for their compassion and empathy. Joan was born in Clifton, New Jersey on August 6, 1931 to Helen and James Munley. She was married for forty years to her husband, George, whom she loved dearly and whose sudden passing in 1996 broke her heart. Joan's family includes her daughter Lauren Donder and husband, David Cooney of Austin; son James Donder and partner, Bill Bard, of Portland, Oregon; and daughter Nancy McConnell and husband, Brian, and their children, Kelly and George, of Austin. Joan was a long time, retired employee of Southwestern and New Jersey Bell Telephone Companies. She began working as an operator during the 1950's, and spent time in both management and union positions. She worked for Bell Telephone in New Jersey, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. Joan was a lifelong member of the Communication Workers of America and the Telephone Pioneers. She was happy to retire to central Texas in 1994. Prior to her diagnosis, Joan enjoyed gardening, sunning at the beach, drinking frozen margaritas while eating Mexican food, petting her cats Bitty and Bitty II, watching songbirds, and spending time with her beautiful grandchildren, Kelly and George, of whom she was very proud. She was a member of several Catholic churches in the area and attended regularly prior to becoming incapacitated. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2009, at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel.
