James A Smiley

Jim served his country in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot and retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He married Carol Ann Luby on August 13, 1957 and they traveled the country and different parts of the world during his time in the service. He began a second career as a teacher and taught many students at Westwood High School in Austin.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol, who passed away in 2008. He is survived by his son Jeff Smiley and wife Beth of Montgomery Alabama, and their children, Sarah Smiley of Lubbock and Laura Smiley of Austin; and his son Mike Smiley and wife Jana, and their children, Steven and Matt of Amarillo; and daughter, Robin Ryan and her children, Erin, Patrick, and D.J., all of Austin.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas 78750. Tributes or memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
