Jim’s early years were spent in Venezuela, where his father worked for Sinclair Oil Company. Jim was 5 years old when the oil company sent families home due to political upheaval. He grew up off South Presa in San Antonio. His dad had Jim and his brother Larry involved in sports and Jim excelled at Pop Warner football, tennis and baseball.
Larry remembers Jim riding his Schwinn bicycle with a banana seat and high handlebars. The boys rode up and down Interstate 37 which was under construction in anticipation of the 1968 HemisFair international exhibition. Jim graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1974. His aunt Beth Thompson had a small music company and wrote the song “Wimberley Away From It All,” which was adopted by Wimberley as their home town song. Jim sang the song on a recording with The Lightcrust Dough Boys made famous by W. E. “Pappy” O’Daniels in Dallas as backup.
Jim was a business agent with the Teamsters’ Union Local #657 in San Antonio from 1982 to 1988. He was the youngest business agent ever hired by the Teamsters. He also enjoyed a second career as a Petroleum Landman. He joined AAPL in 2002, where he qualified as a Registered Petroleum Landman.
Recently, he was an owner/operator of an oil tanker contracted with Dupre Logistics of Louisiana.
Jim never met a stranger; he had a way about him that put everyone at ease. He loved animals and rescued a number of dogs, cats and kittens over the years. He was a passionate fisherman who loved to go fishing on the coast with his friends. He loved cooking and made a mean margarita.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda Evans Logan, his brother John Larry Logan and wife, Karen Ann Logan; nephew Chad Williams and wife, Giselle Williams, and their children, Savannah and Conor. He is also survived by Elizabeth Logan and cousin, Wayne Thompson.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, John Waldo Logan and Haverlyn M. Logan; his aunt Mary Beth Thompson and her husband Robert Taylor; his wife’s parents Otis and Oval Mundine Evans and his stepson Lee Andrew Jarosek, II. He was predeceased by his beloved Miss Wiggles (miniature pug).
A memorial graveside service will held on Saturday, April 23, at 2:00 p.m., at McDade Cemetery with a reception following at the Fellowship Hall at the New Hope Lutheran Church in McDade (formerly the VFW Hall).
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Austin Christopher House, 512-342-4700, or your local no-kill animal shelter.
Another memorial service will be held at a later date at the couple’s home in Port Lavaca, Texas. At his request, Jim’s ashes will be spread at the Land Cut on Padre Island, where he and his friends loved to go camping and fishing.
