Dr. Jack Richard McMahon died peacefully at home in Austin, Texas on Monday, November 6, 2006. A native Texan, he was born in Wayland, Texas on July 25, 1921 to Leah Agnes Nicklow and Fred Daubenspeck McMahon. Jack was the youngest of four brothers who remained close throughout their lives. He attended Baylor University, graduated from Baylor Medical School and began his dental practice in Odessa, Texas. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a dentist and was stationed in Japan during the majority of the war. The most interesting patient of his tour was General Tojo of the Japanese Army, who was captured by the Allied Forces. Jack and two other Texas dentists engraved in dots and dashes of Morse Code the words Remember Pearl Harbor across Tojos upper plate. After the war, Jack returned to Odessa where he married Roe Hudson in 1950. Jack and Roe raised their two daughters Lynn and Suzy and were blessed with wonderful lives filled with friends and family. Jacks family and friends remember him as a kind, caring and generous man who put his family, friends and patients first. Jack loved to hunt, fish and play golf with his friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Roe McMahon; his brother Quay Bayard McMahon of Odessa, Texas; and sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Cliett McMahon. He is survived by his daughter Lynn McMahon Wilson and her husband James of Houston; daughter Suzy McMahon Fields and husband Chuck of Austin; and four grandchildren James Wilson and Leah Wilson of Houston; Ferrell Fields and Brock Fields of Austin. He is also survived by his brothers Fred Hagen McMahon, Sr. of Austin and William David McMahon and his wife Janie Lynn of Longview and sister-in-law Helen Pemberton McMahon of Odessa, Texas and numerous, cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. David Pohl as well as his caregivers Trish Arnold, Nancy Thomas and Larry Franklin for their care and support. Services will be held Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3208 Exposition Blvd, Austin, Texas (512) 459-5497.
