Our mother, Irma first married our father, Roman Bosquez at the age of 21 and was soon widowed at the young age of 32. She continued to work for Hicks Ponder, a pant factory, where she opted to work after securing employment, while not yet completing her high school education. She soon became a supervisor where she enjoyed the respect and friendship of her peers and co-workers. She diligently worked for Hicks Ponder for over 30 years providing for her 3 children and helping her parents, Felix and Juanita Cardenas, who had taken our family in after our father’s death. After 15 years of widowhood, she rekindled a relationship and married her school sweetheart, Eliseo P. Flores. She quit her job and they moved to Sonora, Texas where she began to dedicate herself in service to others by volunteering at a Senior Citizen center, joining her church choir and taking care of children.
Our mother Irma was a determined lady and a strong woman. She lived through her own personal tragedies with grace and strength and was one to be admired. At age 40, she went back to school and obtained her GED. At age 50, she was active playing in a softball league and took pride in knowing that she was good at it. Irma enjoyed life, maintained lifelong friendships, and in her later years was truly a blessing to her grandchildren. In 1991 she and her husband, Eliseo moved to Austin, Texas to live with her daughter and family. While in Austin, she was always forever giving of herself while taking care of her family and her grandchildren. She loved and was loved.
