He was born in Winchester, Texas on July 11, 1930. He joined the US Navy in 1948 and proudly served for 20 years; 6 years in the US Navy and 14 years in the US Air Force. Henry met Jean “sugar”, the love of his life, while in port in Boston, Massachusetts. They married on March 25,1953 and God blessed them with 66 years of marriage and 5 children. After retiring from the US Air Force in 1968, Henry worked for Gulf Oil and soon after, established Henry’s Automotive and Wrecker Service in Austin, Texas. In 25 years of business, he helped keep many folks on the road and made countless friends along the way. Henry will be remembered as a generous and kind man with a huge heart. He never met a stranger and was loved by all. He cared deeply for his family and friends. His hard work and sacrifice, has made life good for so many. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, but was happiest tending to his land and cattle at his ranch in Blue, Texas.
He was proceeded in death by his eldest son Robert James Haney, his parents Henry W. and Esther Haney, his sisters, Ruth Lewis and Minnie North and brothers Dalbert Haney and Charles Haney. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Jean, his children, Linda Mock and husband, Brick, Dale Haney and wife Sigrid, David Haney and wife Josie, Jackie Eller and husband Kent, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous family and friends.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, August 19, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas 78752. Henry’s life and legacy will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 2 PM at Hope Lutheran Church, 6414 North Hampton, Austin, Texas 78723. Interment to follow at La Grange City Cemetery in La Grange.
