Helen Propst Finch

Helen Propst Finch, age 94, went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, August 28, 2010 at West Oaks Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Facility here in Austin, Texas where she has been in resident for four years.

Helen was born in Sheldon, Iowa on October 10, 1915. She was married to Clinton Danford Finch on July 29, 1933. They had two children, George and Patricia.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pan American University of Edinburgh, Texas, in education. She taught school in McAllen, Texas for 25 years. She was in the Who’s Who of American Colleges, and had recently become a member of Daughters of the American Revolution Balcones Chapter, NSDAR. Helen was a member of Exchange Club of Austin, and of Southwest Christian Church where she sang in the choir until her illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Clinton Danford Finch; her parents, John and Genevieve Propst; sister, Kathleen Green and husband Weldon; sister-in-law, Janet Nelson Propst; brother, John Propst Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Elaine Finch; and two grandsons.

Helen is survived by her brother, Wally Propst of Tujunga, California; daughter, Patricia Finch; son, George Finch and wife Bonnie Henry Finch; two granddaughters, Brenda Cary, Mattie Finch; four grandsons, Clint Finch, Jim Finch, Danny Finch, Trey Henry and their spouses; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue with a service to follow at 7:00 pm. Interment will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa later this week.
