Harold Eugene (Gene) Clark, age 74, of Austin, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011, after a valiant fight against esophageal cancer. He was born to Horace and Dorothy Clark on May 8, 1936, in Ozan, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Horace Vedie Clark, and his mother, Dorothy “Dot” Perry, who died in November 2010 at age 95. Gene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Ann Clark; his son Dennis Clark and wife Eileen Latham of Austin; daughter Vicki Cameron and husband James Cameron of Dripping Springs. He is also survived by grandsons Russel Cameron and wife Christina Cameron of San Antonio, Jason Clark and Gene Cameron; and granddaughters Kelly Cameron and Callie Latham and husband David Latham of North Carolina.
Gene spent 20 years in the United States Air Force and retired as a TSgt. He served in North Africa, Korea, Philippines and Azores Islands while in the military, as well as many locations within the U.S. he worked for Tracor for 24 years and retired in 1998. After retirement, Gene replaced his passion for airplanes with Ford Thunderbirds. He founded the Capital City Thunderbirds Club in Austin, Texas in 1996. He enjoyed his fellowship with Ford Thunderbird owners while attending club meetings, swap meets and car shows.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 26, 2011 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home followed by the Honor Guard Ceremony in the Memorial Garden.
