Glenn Richard Burke

Glenn was undoubtedly a loving and caring father, uncle, brother, son and friend. He cherished every picture and drawing that his daughters, Christina and Marina did as a symbol of devotion. Glenn loved his nephews ("his boys"), Burke and Patrick, and would routinely try to get them to eat worms as kids. As adults he would try to hustle them while playing cards. He loved his family immensely and lived to bring warmth and humor (even if that humor was slightly inappropriate and came with a groan of "Glenn!")

Glenn loved nature. He could name every species of plant or flower and used this skill to create his little own oasis in his back yard. Glenn was an avid reader and enjoyed Stephen King, and he liked to boast about how many times he had watched a movie. Last we checked Glenn had watched Live Die Repeat “a few dozen times”. Glenn was a charmer yet always had a mischievous side, playing the occasional prank or cracking a joke. We will never forget his Cheshire cat smile or giggle.

His last few weeks were surrounded by his loving family (daughter: Christina d’Orthez and fiancé Nic Yiallouris; daughter Marina d’Orthez; sister and brother-in-law: Suzanne and Mike Kennedy; nephew and family: Burke, Erica, and Justine Kennedy; nephew and family: Patrick, Adrianne, and Clara Kennedy; cousin Lynda Brown) and his loving friends (Carson, Bonnie, Wes, Alane, Bill and “Dickens”, Pat, Dan, Jane, Pete, Becky, Margaret, Lynne, Pam, Marshall and Kit) reminiscing about holidays, reliving memories and sharing stories.

Glenn dearly loved and missed his father and mother who had gone before.

Free of the physical pain Glenn lived with for so many years, he is now God's landscaper with a smile of peace.

Glenn embodied the quote by Eleanor Roosevelt that “The giving of love is an education in itself."

We love you to the moon and back Glenn!

The family will be receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the 2nd of August at Cook Walden Funeral Home located at 6100 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752. Burial will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the 3rd of August at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Dr, Austin, TX 78731.

In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Glenn’s name be directed to Hospice Austin’s Christopher House, 4107 Spicewood Springs Rd, Ste. 100, Austin, TX 78759 or Fr.
