Gene Ritchie Dillard, age 81, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2019 in Austin, TX surrounded by family. He was born February 9, 1938 in Claredon, TX. For nearly two decades he was highly respected amongst his peers and colleagues in the Austin real estate market, where he worked alongside his wife Doreen Dillard. Shortly after high school, Gene joined the US Navy, then began a career working for the American Medical Association and later traveled the world supplying textiles and fabric to fashion designers like Ralph Lauren.
If you knew Gene, your world was expanded and brightened with his infectious smile, jocular humor, and revered advice / mentorship. No matter if you were a passing stranger, colleague, new or old friend, he made your day better. He was a guiding force to his family, and would move mountains for his grandchildren. Gene lived a storied life with many chapters that few come close to writing, but none compared to the love his life, Dorie My Dorie. A dynamic duo in real estate, away from work they traveled the world hand in hand, exploring new frontiers.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct 4th from 6-8pm, and service the following day, Oct 5th, at 10am. Both will be held at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home (9700 Anderson Mill Rd, Austin, TX 78750).
Survivors include wife of 25years, Doreen C Dillard, stepchildren, Melissa J Stout and her husband Russell P Stout Jr of Austin,TX, John T Dunham and wife Erika K Dunham of Austin,TX; daughter in law, Linda Dillard of Austin, TX; son, Roger Dillard; daughter, Gina Dillard; sister, Sharon K Soergel and husband Bob Soergel of Dallas, TX; brothers, Frank Dillard and wife Nannette Dillard, Robert G Dillard Jr and wife Marilyn Dillard both of Houston, TX; four grandsons, Jeffrey Dillard Jr, Russell P Stout III, Tyler Dillard, Hudson Dunham; three granddaughters, Hailey Stout, Maggie Stout, Beckett Dunham and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert G and Hazel B Dillard, son, Jeffrey Dillard, brother Lynn B Dillard.
Pallbearers at the service will include Jeffrey Dillard Jr, Tyler Dillard, John T Dunham, Russell P Stout Jr, Russell P Stout III, Bill Virun. Honorary Pallbearer Frank Dillard.
