Gail Lee Patterson Bickling, 76, of Austin, Texas died Tuesday March 22, 2016 at her home. Gail is survived by her husband and life-long love Richard Bickling, her 2 surviving sisters Sue Dougherty of Newark, DE; Wendy Haedo of Garnet Valley, PA; her 3 children and their spouses; Rick and Ellen Bickling of Leander, TX; Randy Gaytan of Valdosta, GA; Ryan and Kim Bickling of Lawrence, KS: her 7 Grandchildren; Kyle and his wife Sarah Bickling of Cedar Park, TX; Kevin Bickling of Leander, TX; Christopher Petre of Boston, MA; Erin Petre of Atlanta, GA; Christian Gaytan of Valdosta, GA; Zachary Bickling of Lawrence, KS and Mackenzie Bickling of Lawrence KS: and her Great-Grandson Caleb Bickling of Cedar Park, TX and many loved nieces, nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents George "Pat" and Marguerite "Peg" Patterson and her sister Bonnie Jean Patterson Metheny.
Gail holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Delaware and a Master of Education degree from the University of West Florida. Austin, Texas has been home to her and her husband since 1991.
Her certifications include Texas Teacher Certificate in Secondary English, Vocational Home Economics, Gifted and Talented, and Mid-Management Administrator; University of Texas Project Management certificate and Public Relations certificate; National Guard Bureau Army Communities of Excellence Examiner Team Leader certification; and the U.S. Department of Commerce National Baldrige Performance Excellence Examiner certification; and Strategic Planning certification.
Mrs. Bickling had a passion for striving for, attaining and even exceeding any goal that she set. This passion was evident in her education, work and family. Whether it was working a full-time job, raising a family and going to school at night to earn her Master degree; spending many weekends working on a work project until it met her high standards; or sending cards for every holiday and special event to her sisters, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends. Her hobbies and interests included traveling with her husband to visit family members around the country, hiking, documenting her travels with both still photography and video, reading and learning.
She will be dearly missed, but her influence will be felt in the lives of those she touched.
Services will be held Wednesday March 30; Viewing 10am, Funeral 11am at Atonement Methodist Church, Claymont, DE.
