Evelyn Marie-Mickey Williams was born February 6, 1953 in Austin, Tx to mother Arlene Hill-Mickey and father William Henry Crowell of St. John Colony in Dale, TX. Evelyn graduated from OLD L.C. ANDERSON HIGH SCHOOL class of 1971. As she would mention austin’s only high school for African American students during the era of segregation. Finishing with the last graduating class. Evelyn took her talents to HOUSTON-TILTSON. a member of PSI BETA LLAMDA. Also where she received her bachelor's in business administration. Shortly after graduating, her career excelled in many different ways.She worked at the first Austin Community College in East Austin in East Austin from 1979 - 1994. Texas College Of Traditional Chinese 1995-1999, East Austin Caregivers 1995-1998. Secretary at East Side Baptist Church, Sears, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, US Census. She even held a business with her late friend Carlotta Yett called, “Pay it and take it” similar to the get it and go on Manor Rd. As a Child Evelyn was fortunate to have experienced a baptism under the Montopolis Bridge in the Colorado River she became a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church.
As she became a young adult she took her blessings to East Side Baptist Church and became a member in 2001. God told her keep going, and over time she never rejoined but she grew a major love for her children's home church, East Nineteenth Street Baptist Church, and South Austin Community Church. which she attended regularly, in person or live on youtube. She never missed a sermon. In 1968 Evelyn welcomed her first born Shawn L. Williams into the world in 1975. Then a few years later she welcomed her second born child Cory L. Williams. Then in 1978 she welcomed her last child, and only daughter Delmetria A. Williams. Evelyn wanted nothing more than to make sure her family was always taken care of. After her health started taking a toll on her she chose to stay home with her daughter and help raise her grandchildren. It gave her a better excuse to spend more time with all her family. Making sure her appearance was up to par, and smelled good everywhere she went was a must for her. Even if it was just going up to the store. Doing puzzles, scrabble, word search, playing the newspaper riddles, watching Young and The Restless at 11AM and Bold and the Beautiful at 12:30pm. Every day of the week having a specific tv show to watch after 6:30 PM, Family Feud, Tyler Perry, knitting a blanket. talking on the phone to any of her siblings, friends, cousins, children or grandchildren. enjoyed just being on the go. In the early 2000's you could catch her in the city. Juneteenth parades, black festivals, pecan festival, class meetings, class fundraisers, class reunions. She enjoyed listening to her favorite tunes on youtube or with her record player. She enjoyed a good dominos or spades match at every function, and never turned down a bottle of water or a wine cooler. Evelyn and close friend Barbara attended zumba together, go shopping and catch a movie. Evelyn, Barbara (Aunt Barbara), and Julia (Aunt Penny) took day trips, road trips, at the first sign of a free weekend, attending family gatherings, and family reunions. If it was a function with food and music she was there. Overtime her health got to risky for her to drive places so family, children, grandchildren, classmates, Ms. Kay, Ms. Rhonda Pooh, Daughter in love Glenda and anyone else she trusted to lend a hand was there to get her around. We all played a part in making sure her needs were met.
Evelyn departed june 5, 2024, at age 71. Living an amazing life, beating leukemia , out living her mother and sister.
To cherish her love and legacy she leaves her children, Shawn L. Williams (Glenda Williams), Cory l. Williams, Delmetria A. Williams. Grandchildren, Azuree D. Williams-Scott; Shawnetra Mays, Sha’corah Williams, Aziyah D. Williams; Marcellus Works, Curtis Griffin, Ja’Naye L. Ervin, Cory L. Williams, Carter Williams, Courtni Williams, Marquis Martel, Xavion Mackey. Great Grandchildren: Diamond R. Williams, Zayvion K.E Ellington. Loving Sisters: Ida L. Trotter, Betty J. Williams and Mary L. Horner. Protective brothers: Elroy l Griffin III, Eddie Griffin. Cousin: Janet Weiss. Best friends: Barbara Echols, Julia Wright. Evelyn is also greeted with a warm hug in Heaven by her loving mother Arlene Mickey-Maxfield, Father and Sister Rose Marie “China Doll” Mickey james, Best Friend Carlotta Yett.
