Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother joined her husband in heaven on their 73rd wedding anniversary. Eva Santangelo was the youngest of 10 children, born in Plainfield, NJ after her family immigrated to the US from Italy in 1927. In 1947 she met the love of her life, Lawrence Santangelo. They wed in 1949 and were blessed with three children. When Eva became a grandmother in 1970, her eldest granddaughter eventually bestowed on her the name “Benga”…a name she became universally known by among family, friends and acquaintances. She finally settled in Texas in 1983, after living in several other states. She loved to dance, enjoyed an occasional cigar, always had a stash of homemade cookies on hand, along with brandy or whiskey for “medicinal” purposes, kept everyone fed with homemade Italian food every Sunday after church, and loved her family dearly. She lived 92 feisty years and saw and experienced much in her lifetime. Finally, she was ready to join her husband and sons and passed from this world into the next. Eva will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Luigi and Speranza DeLorenzo, all nine of her siblings, husband, Lawrence Sr and sons, Lawrence Jr and Andrew. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea, son-in-law, Henry Pinter, daughter-in-law, Pura Barberii-Santangelo, granddaughters Marie Cohan (Robert Cohan) and Laura Fox, and great-grandchildren, Hailey Cohan, Claire Cohan, Samantha Turner-Nevarez, Andrew Cohan, Aiden Fox and Aurora Fox, along with many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Services will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Austin on May 9 at 10 am. Interment will be at a later date in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Ottsville, PA. In Lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
