Betty was born January 12, 1924 in Corsicana, Texas, to Ruth and George Bean and grew up in Fort Worth with her brother George (Billy) Bean, who later became a doctor there. She enjoyed horseback riding and her lifelong friends in Fort Worth, including Nancy Shulkey Salmon (maid of honor), Drucilla Cochran Sheldon, Doris Wellborn Smith, and others. Betty was active as a child and adult in Camp Fire Girls in Fort Worth and at Camp El Tesoro. She graduated from Paschal High School and attended Lindenwood College. While there, she met a handsome cadet from Edinburg. On August 24, 1943 she married Laurie (Larry) Folmar, who passed away in March after 63 years together. She continued her education during Larry's time as a pilot in World War II. She graduated with a degree in sociology from the University of Texas, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. As a devoted wife Betty made many moves due to her husband's career. Over the years her family lived in several locations in West Texas, Fort Worth, Tulsa, and Pelham, New York. Betty rose to this challenge, setting up and maintaining comfortable, warm homes for her family in each new setting. Everywhere she went she always made many new friends, still maintaining close personal contact with her old ones. She was known for her lovely dinners and notes, high energy and hard work, and beautiful smile. Betty and Larry enjoyed traveling to many beautiful and interesting places all over the world. She had the honor of christening the Texaco Norway in 1971 on one such trip. In 1978 her husband retired from senior management for Texaco, and they moved to Lakeway, where they continued with many longtime and new friendships. Betty gave and received richly from family and friends including Shirley and Joe, June and Jerry, Shirley and Tom, June and Dave, Anna and Bob, Martha and Lloyd, Kathryne and John, Toni and Joe (best man), Mary Lou, the Texaco group in Fort Worth, Marilyn and Artie, the "sewing" group in Pelham, the prayer and investment groups at Lakeway and many more too numerous to name. Betty was a member of the Presbyterian Church, USA. She belonged to churches in Fort Worth, Tulsa, Pelham, NY, Lakeway, and most recently to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin. She donated the building in Wisconsin that now houses the Bangor Historical Museum, where her grandfather originally had a store. Memorial gifts may be sent to Covenant Presbyterian Church, Austin; the Bangor Historical Society (c/o Korb, 1602 Cardinal, Bangor, WI 54614) or the Samaritan Institute (national counseling ministry), 2696 S.
