Our loving father, Ed Rhodes Littlefield Wroe Jr., went home to be with his Savior on April 11, 2007. He was a fifth generation Austinite and a descendant of Major George W. Littlefield. He was born in Austin on December 29, 1924 to Ed Rhodes Littlefield Wroe and Nancy Judson Wynne Wroe. He grew up in Austin and graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1942. He attended the University of Texas where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the Silver Spurs. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University Of Texas School Of Business in 1949. He obtained his masters degree in accounting at Rutgerss University in 1962. Ed entered active service in World War II in June of 1943. He served three campaigns in the European Theater of Operations as a forward artillery observer of the 83rd infantry division, including participation in the Battle of the Bulge. He served fourteen years in the U.S. Army Reserves and retired with rank of major in 1962. Upon returning to Austin after the war, he joined the family bank, The American National Bank. He became chairman of the board after his fathers death in 1963. On June 11, 1949, he married Frances Ammon Neyland in Austin, TX. There they raised their four children. He had an indelible love of family, community, and had a passion for hunting. Ed was the President of the Austin Chamber of Commerce, UT Dads Association President, Chancellors Council member, Board of Trustees at St. Marys Hall in San Antonio, a founder of St. Andrews Episcopal School, and lifetime member of St. Davids Episcopal Church. Additionally, he was a member and trustee of Game Conservation International, St. Hubertus Club, the Shikar Safari Club, and the Sportsmens Club of Texas. Our Dads many accomplishments were borne with silent pride, because above all things, he was a very humble man. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Ammon, and brother, W.A. Wroe. He is survived by his daughter Nancy and her husband, Floyd Nation, of Houston, daughter Betsy and husband, Chuck Powell of Houston, daughter Callie and husband, David Holland of Houston, and son, Ed Rhodes Wroe and wife, Gina, of Elgin; his beloved grandchildren, Beau McMahon, Hagen McMahon and wife Haley, Wynne McMahon, Gus Powell, Ashley Powell, Amy Holland, Callie Anne Holland, Sarah Holland, and David Holland. He has one great-granddaughter, Avery McMahon. A celebration of Eds life will be held at St. Davids Episcopal Church on Friday, April 13, at 2:00 P.M. St. Davids is located at 304 East Seventh Street, Austin, TX 78701. His honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Seton Fund, 1208 West 38th Street, Austin, TX 78705 or to the charity of your choice.
