Douglas Leon Carter, age 94, of Buda, Texas passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Leon was born in Rains County, Texas to Marvin and Nora Butler Carter on June 19, 1928. As young boy he worked on a ranch in West Texas before entering the Army where he proudly served during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the Army, Leon moved to Galveston, Texas where his lifelong passion of playing Country music began. He later moved to Austin, Texas and married Mary Edith “Chick” Burt.
Leon was a kind and giving person who enjoyed life and sharing his love of music. Throughout his life he played music in many Austin clubs and volunteered his time to play at nursing homes, VFW's, and for numerous fundraisers.
Leon is survived by his sister, Gladys Mitchell; his partner, Florence Simpson; nieces: Sandy Ragsdale, Lesley Carter, Shelley Ballard, Sabra Masters, and Tempy Barton; nephews: Larry Carter, Chris Carter, and Rowdy Ragsdale. Leon is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Edith “Chick”, his daughter, Norma Jean Swenson, his brothers: Wayne and Arthur Carter, nephews: Mike Carter, Charles Mitchell, and Paul Dennis Mitchell; niece, Doris Mitchell.
Visitation will take place on Friday, October 7, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home at 6100 North Lamar, Austin, Texas 78752.
A graveside service will be held at Walnut Creek Baptist Church cemetery, located at 12062 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas 78753, on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.
