Domingo was born to Domingo Sr and Juanita Hernandez on December 19, 1935 in Alice, Texas. The eldest of four brothers, he graduated from Alice High School in 1954, where he played saxophone in the band, and earned letters in football, basketball, and track. His educational journey continued at Texas A&I University (now A&M-Kingsville) where he played one year for the Javelinas.
Domingo's formative years were characterized by a strong work ethic and a commitment to family. From shining shoes to working in the oil fields, he embraced every opportunity to contribute. His dedication extended to serving in the Texas National Guard and later joining the U.S. Army, where he retired as a Master Sergeant in Military Intelligence after 26 years of honorable service. Domingo’s military career took him to Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, Georgia, Alaska, West Berlin Germany (during the Cold War), New Mexico, California, Arizona, Seoul South Korea, Fort Leavenworth Kansas, and finally Austin Texas. Post-military life, he embarked on a successful career as a salesman and finance manager with McMorris Ford in Austin, retiring in 1998.
In 1960, Domingo married the love of his life and soulmate, Lilia, in Alice. Together they had four children, ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Domingo was an avid golfer and member of the Pan American Golf Association which allowed him to play in several tournaments throughout the country and volunteer as an official at other tournaments, including those at the University of Texas. Golf became not just a sport but a symbol of his resilience, with his post-illness or surgery recoveries motivated by a desire to return to the golf course.
His heart was always in football, whether it was coaching his sons’ football teams or advising his grandsons’ teams. He enjoyed watching his Cowboys and Longhorns alongside his family while having a home tailgate party with a Bud Light and barbecue. Domingo was not just an NFL fan but was the unwavering number one fan at his children and grandchildren's extracurricular events, showering them with unconditional love and support.
Domingo was a jokester, known for his teasing and sense of humor. While he loved to joke, his moments of seriousness were rare but impactful, offering valuable life lessons to his family. He instilled the importance of sticking together, love, and resilience. He led by example and enveloped his family in boundless love.
We are deeply saddened with his loss but embrace the idea that he has reunited with those friends and family who left this world before him. He is now free to do all the things he loves, like learning new things, walking, running, swimming and golfing as he pleases.
Domingo was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother Eladio, and an infant brother. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years Lilia; children (and spouses) David (Irene), Debra (Joe), Daniel (Michelle), and Diana (Louis); grandchildren Jennifer, Daniel, Virgina, Alexander, Jacob, Vittoria, Veronica, Chloe, Bailey, McKenzie, and Zachary; great-grandchildren Vallie Mae and Aila Ray; brother Armando (Lisa); numerous nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Peanuts.
In celebrating Domingo's life, we honor a man who touched countless hearts, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and enduring memories. May he rest in eternal peace.
