Chief Master Sergeant David A Cornelius, USAF Retired (2007) of Thrall, TX, passed away at home on March 14, 2023. He will be remembered as a proud veteran, dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He was born on July 15, 1960 in Austin, Texas. David entered the Air Force in 1981. While stationed in San Antonio he met and married Cheryl Pecar in 1988.
He enlisted in the USAF/Texas Air National Guard in 1981 and proudly served his country. He was the recipient of many decorations including the AF Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Lone Star Distinguished Service Medal.
After retiring from USAF, he had a second career as the CMSgt for the 401st Air Support Group, Texas State Guard. For several years he worked at the Taylor Municipal Airport. He loved camping, the outdoors and helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, HC “Bus” and JoAnn Hill Cornelius. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cheryl Pecar Cornelius; children, Kadie Cornelius of Thrall, Travis Cornelius and wife, Jonelle of Austin; granddaughter Riley Grace Cornelius; Sisters Jan Crouch, Nancy Cornelius Hermes and Husband Bob Hermes.
Visitation will be at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752. The Memorial Service, Celebration of his Life, will follow at 2:00 P.M.
