Christie Bomar Nalle

Born on June 9, 1952 to Charles Lorance and Laura Lou Johnston Bomar in Lubbock, Texas, the second of four children. Christie’s family moved to Austin on Veteran’s Day 1961 so her father wouldn’t have to miss work. Her entire Austin life was spent living in the Westlake area. Christie attended Austin High School for two years, then transferred to the new Westlake High School as a member of the first graduating class in 1970. Her parents were instrumental in establishing Hill Country Middle School and Westlake High School.

Christie was very active in community, business and philanthropic causes. She was a longtime volunteer at the Helping Hand Home for Children, active in the Eanes ISD and PTO organizations and a Eucharistic minister at St. David’s Episcopal Church. Christie was also very involved in supporting the activities of her husband and son, Jordan. She served as the secretary for the Westlake Youth Soccer program, secretary for Austin Boy Scout Troop 5 and served a term as the president of the Aggie Moms Club of Austin.

In business, Christie was dedicated, organized, and tenacious. She began her working career in the bakery at Rylander’s Grocery and worked her way through college at the University of Texas Extension Service Print Shop. In 1978, Bill and Christie married and began a lifetime of working together. While Bill captained the Riverboat Commodore on Lake Austin, Christie managed logistics, catering and bar service from 1976 to 1986. From 1983 to 2019, Christie managed all aspects of Bill’s growing accident reconstruction engineering business with ease. She also managed the family portfolio of residential and commercial real estate. Christie epitomized the adage that if you want something done right, ask a busy person to do it.

Christie had many personal interests and activities that included travel, cooking, boating, and raising a wild son with love and firmness. Christie humored Bill’s passion for boating and eventually became a captain herself of the Natté, a 28-foot Venetian water limousine. The name came from a misspelling of “Nalle” during one of her many foreign travels, and later became Christie’s pet name by her two grandchildren. Christie was devoted to her grandchildren and regularly traveled out-of-state to babysit and support her daughter-in-law during Jordan’s multiple military deployments abroad.

One of Christie’s many legacies will be her key role establishing the Nalle Bunny Run Wildlife Preserve in 2000. Christie moved into the untamed cedar country with Bill after their marriage, and helped turn a one-room, hand-built house with no air conditioning into a proper home. She lived at Bunny Run until her passing day. The property will remain green and native thanks to her tireless efforts.

Christie is survived by her husband William Byrd Nalle, son William Jordan Nalle, daughter-in-law Rachel Maureen Phillips Nalle, grandchildren Addison Byrd Nalle and William Teak Nalle. She is also survived by her brother Michael Bomar of Corvallis, Oregon, sister Ann and husband Tom Ferguson of Chico, and sister Pat May of Round Rock, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Christie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Laura.

The Nalle Family wishes to thank their family and the many friends who supported Christie during her life. We are especially thankful for her personal “Meals on Wheels” food delivery group orchestrated by Mary Fellows, as Christie was particularly concerned about Bill’s ability to operate the kitchen equipment. We also wish to thank the many caregivers who devoted their time and love to care for Christie and tolerated her instructions on how to drive her car.

Funeral service and burial will be at the Nalle Family Cemetery located at 4615 Bunny Run, 78746 at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 28th, 2021. Family will receive guests afterwards at their home at Bunny Run.
