The family of Charlie Von Der Ahe are saddened to let you know that he passed away unexpectedly at his home in Westlake Hills, Austin, TX, on Sunday, May 8, 2016, at the age of 55. Charlie was born in Burbank, CA on June 21, 1960, and grew up in Studio City, CA, attending Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, and the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Charlie and his family moved from the Los Angeles area to Austin and he was most recently the majority owner of The Salon at The Domain in Austin, an upscale beauty salon. Charlie was a devoted, fun-loving, wonderful husband, father, brother, friend, business-owner, fraternity brother (Phi Gamma Delta at USC), who certainly left his mark on those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed. He was known as a terrific friend, always extending himself to others and seeking ways he could be of help to those fortunate enough to be included in his wide circle of friends. After his family, Charlie’s passion was his involvement in the Oak Hill Youth Sports Association, a baseball league for kids up to the age of 16. As an energetic, fully involved coach and cheerleader for the kids, many youngsters have benefited from his leadership over the years. In addition to his beloved wife Leslie, Charlie is survived by his four children from his first marriage: Allison, Chad, Elizabeth, and Grant; his step-children Hayden, Haylie, and John Grosch; his mother Jane Ackerman and her husband Steve (Studio City, CA); his brothers Chris (La Canada, CA), Wil (Manhattan Beach, CA), Greg (Westport, CT), and Peter (Greenwich, CT); and a large extended family.
A memorial service for Charlie will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, May 13th, 2016 at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78752. Burial services will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that contributions in Charlie’s memory be made to the Oak Hill Youth Sports Association, P.O. Box 91416, Austin, TX 78709.
