She was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, and was very active in her church and school youth groups. She attended St. Mary’s University in one of the earliest co-ed classes and graduated with a degree in English. After graduation, she moved from San Antonio to Washington D.C. where she worked for the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development. While at HUD she met her husband, the brother of a coworker and fellow Texan. After several years working in D.C., she returned to start a family in Austin.
Celia loved socializing and was especially known for her warm and caring demeanor. She loved having people over for holidays, birthdays, or just for a visit. She was heavily involved as a parent volunteering at St. Ignatius Martyr School, at one point serving as PTO President. She was a selfless and giving person to her own family and the many she adopted as her family.
Celia was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel E. Ruiz.
She is survived by her two children, Daniel and wife Julia, and Celeste and husband Tim; three grandchildren; sister, Mary Louise Flores and husband Pete, of San Antonio.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, Nov. 1st at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home 2620 South Congress from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm, with Rosary to begin at 5:00 pm.
Funeral Mass 10:00 am on Monday, Nov. 2nd at St. Ignatius Church.
Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
Capacities will be limited to 60 at Funeral Home and 200 at Church due to ongoing COVID restrictions. As a strict single-entry 60 person limit will be held by the cemetery, the family asks that you attend either the viewing or Funeral Mass.
