Cathy Scott McElroy, born September 29, 1952, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 22, 2010. A loving, caring, sister, mother and daughter, Cathy was deeply dedicated to wildlife. She served as a volunteer for 16 years with Wildlife Rescue. She spent countless hours rescuing and rehabilitating all manner of wildlife and abandoned pets. Cathy was a member of the Junior League of Austin for 29 years serving as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and other community organizations. Cathy also served as a Westlake Fire Commissioner for 10 years and as a Westlake City Council Member for 12 years. A mainstay in the Good Shepherd living Nativity Scene, Cathy always vied with family members for the coveted role of Mary. Cathy was proud of her participation as a Junior Helping Hand Debutante and Bachelor's Club of Austin Debutante. Originally a private first class in the Ft. Clark Expeditionary Forces, Cathy ultimately rose to the rank of 7 Star General Emeritus (self appointed of course). A classically trained player piano player and unschooled washboard player, Cathy's ultimate goal was to be part of the band. Cathy, so proud of her status as a native born Austinite, was predeceased by her loving father, Wally Scott Jr. She is survived by her beloved children, Cate and Andrew, her husband Mike McElroy, mother Cile Scott, aunts Peggy Whalley and Lillian Scott, brother Willy Scott and wife Janet, brother Wally Scott and wife Marietta. Nieces Colly Scott, Cile Scott, Ali Scott, Christy Scott and nephews Win Scott and Charlie Scott, devoted friend Chelly Gonzalez, and too many other friends and acquaintances to name. Cathy attended St. Andrews Episcopal School, O'Henry Junior High, 1970 graduate of Austin High where she was Self Proclaimed Ping Pong Champion, attended TCU and graduated from University of Texas. She worked for the law firm of Scott and Douglass, Austin Municipal Securities, Lone Star Beer Distributors as the first female beer sales representative, and was founder of Cathy's Eggs: Laid with Love. Long time Longhorn fan, Cathy wore her dad's 1941 Letterman's ring, and had a reserved seat in the Texas 200 Horns Club. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 25, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish North Lamar. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Laguna Gloria Museum of Art Amphitheater. Parking will be available at Westwood Country Club.
