Billie Jo “Granny” Figer (Brewer) passed away peacefully on November 18, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born August 25, 1930, in Hale County, Texas, to George and Lois (Arthur) Brewer. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Curtis, for 64 years.
Known affectionately as “Mom” and “Granny,” she had a way of instantly making you feel like family, “adopting” everyone as her own. She was thoughtful and kind. She filled her pantry with everyone’s favorite items and generously offered them at every visit.
She opened her home and heart to everyone she met, and spent her life in service to others as a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, second-mother and grandmother, aunt, friend, PTA member, and charter band parent of David Crockett High School.
Her home was filled with music, and it became a gathering place for her children’s friends, where they would literally roll up the rug in the living room so they could learn to dance just like “Mom and Dad.” Her home continued to be festive and fun, welcoming everyone for annual celebrations for decades.
She was a talented crafter and seamstress, handmaking her daughters’ wedding dresses, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, Christmas ornaments, pillowcases, and doll clothes. She spent countless patient hours in her sewing room or at her kitchen bar, welcoming anyone who wanted to join her. We will treasure the items she made, many bearing the tag “Made with love by Granny.”
She had an incredible memory and enjoyed recounting stories to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made you feel loved and remembered on your birthday and brought joy to others with beautifully handwritten cards. Every summer, each of her 10 grandchildren enjoyed their own week with Granny and Grandad. During this special time together, they would cook meals, work on favorite crafts and projects, and play games. Her children have carried on this cherished tradition with their own grandchildren.
She leaves behind an incredible legacy - survived by her children: Mike and Cindy Figer of Dripping Springs, Bonnie and Keith Harmon of Arlington, Donald and Pamela Figer of Austin, and Betsy Lambeth and Brad Curlee of Round Rock; grandchildren: Laura and Dave Loveless, Ashley and Lucas Pointer, Emily and Larry Juergens, Shannon and Clint Lowe, Andrew and Dana Figer, Benjamin and Desiree Figer, Shelby and Kevin Thurston, Christine and Tyler Weaver, Patrick and Kathryn Figer, and Brady and Brianna Lambeth; 32 great-grandchildren; niece, Tammy Pessoa, husband Dinis, and son Ryan; and nephew, Mark Timmons and daughters Mekenzy and Kelsey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis; father, George; mother, Lois; sister, Mickey Reynolds; brothers, LaVaughn & David “Buddy” Brewer; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 21 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704. Services will be held at 10:00 am at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 4600 Menchaca Rd, Austin, TX 78745 on Friday, November 22. Interment at Live Oak Cemetery will follow the funeral service.
The family would like to thank the staff members of Arlington Memorial Hospital and Enhabit Home Health and Hospice for their kind and gentle care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to AustinSoundwaves.org to support a world without barriers to music education.
