Bill Scott, age 84, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Long Island, New York and grew up in Temple, Texas. He was a gifted athlete, and was a favorite among his classmates. He graduated from Temple High School in 1948 and attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He graduated in 1952 with a degree in business. He joined the United States Army and served in the war in Korea. While serving in the Army he received many military honors.
After service to his country, he started a career with Prudential Life Insurance Company in 1954. Soon after, he met the love of his life and soulmate, Gwen Chandler, and started a family. During his career with Prudential, he was awarded several high honors, but most importantly he was a treasured leader and mentor to many fellow agents.
Bill enjoyed spending his time twirling Gwen across the dance floor. As a couple they were very dedicated to the First Presbyterian Church of Austin, serving in many capacities. He also loved the game of golf. During his playing years, Bill collected seven holes in one. He enjoyed the competition with many friends while playing golf at Great Hills Golf Club where he was a member for 38 years.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Gwen in 2013 and is survived by his children Stefani Price and Larry Scott, and his granddaughter Gretchen Price. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and will be forever missed.
Services will be held Friday, December 4, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Austin on Mesa Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church and to Seton Hospital. The family wishes to thank Seton Hospital and Hospice Austin for their amazing care.
