Becky Moore McDonald

Becky was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Peggy and Jack Moore on January 21, 1952. Becky graduated from Crockett High School in 1970 and from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1975. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, bled burnt orange and loved attending and watching UT football games.

On August 23, 1975, she married the love of her life, Brent McDonald. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage together and were an inspiration to all who witnessed their deep devotion and love for one another. From their daily morning coffee and porch discussions to sunset cruises in the Caribbean, they shared laughter, kisses and tears down to their final farewell.

Becky was a devoted mother who loved unconditionally and gave of herself completely. Her family always came first. She cherished celebrating their milestones and worked tirelessly to create special traditions and cultivate memories that they will carry on and cling to in the years to come. From decorating their home for every holiday and birthday, to yearly pictures in the bluebonnets to countless lunchbox love notes, not a day went by when she was not creating a home filled with love and beauty.

In addition to her role as a wife and mother, she cherished being a grandmother and was referred to as Lovey. For the last twelve years of her life, she courageously and bravely battled back against a stroke with a spirit of determination, strength and positivity. Never defeated, she always found the beauty and joy in her life.

Becky was a friend to everyone she met. Her endearing personality and radiant beauty, both inside and out, made everyone want to be near her. Becky’s big smile could light up a room. She had a gift for making people feel welcome in her company. One of her greatest joys was spending time with close friends and taking unforgettable trips with them to places like Hawaii, New York, California and Europe. One of her favorite places to visit was Crystal Beach, where she found tranquility in the salty air, building sandcastles, finding seashells, and taking in the sunsets. From her MG to her Sky convertible, she lived life with the top down and the wind in her hair.

For nearly 20 years, Becky taught pre-school and kindergarten, and touched the lives of thousands of children and parents as she shared her gift of teaching and inspiring young minds. Her legacy as a teacher will live on forever. She inherited her mother’s artistic ability and had an eye for photography and seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary. She always took time to stop and smell the roses and notice the little things that others might overlook.

Becky was a Mystic girl (Kiowa tribe) as well as a counselor and land sports coach. She also was a Girl Scout enthusiast which sparked a lifelong love affair with nature and the outdoors. She was a gentle soul who loved caring for and watching the birds that visited her backyard each day. She loved gardening and working in her greenhouse. Everybody knew she had a ‘green thumb’ and loved to get her hands in the dirt. She cultivated a backyard oasis filled with plants in every shade of the rainbow.

She was a devoted follower of Christ. For over 60 years, Becky attended Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she and her family have worshiped and celebrated life’s biggest milestones together. She relished time spent with friends during Bible study, which she often hosted at her home.

Becky is survived by her loving husband, Brent McDonald; her children Amanda McDonald Sutliff and husband Graham; Megan McDonald Tamporello and husband Sammy; and grandchildren, Shelby and Price Sutliff, and Jackson and Tristan Tamporello; as well as her sister Diane Moore Wagner and husband Lonnie.

A visitation will be held on June 5, 2020, at 1:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas. A funeral service will be held immediately following at the same location. A Private Committal Service will be held for the family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to allow more friends and family to honor the life of our beautiful Becky.
