Anna Marie Rossi “Ann” Thompson was born April 18, 1930, in Galveston, Texas. She received her Eternal Reward, on Friday, December 21, 2018 at the age of 88. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Boarding School in San Antonio, Texas. She went on to complete her nurses training at St. Mary’s Catholic Hospital in Galveston, Texas, where she eventually became the “Director of Nursing”. During her fifty-year nursing career she worked in many capacities in the Galveston/Houston and Austin areas until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by two of her children, Marjorie Chote Ahmed, and Oran J. (Buddy) Hopkins, Jr. and all four of her siblings. She is survived by her children, Kathie, and husband, Walter I. Tacquard, III of Austin, daughter in law, Marcia Hopkins of Austin, Forrest P. Thompson, and wife, Jo Lynn of Spring, and Michelle, and husband Dennis Messex, of Granger. She was very proud of her 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, as well as her numerous nieces and nephews.
She was passionate about nursing, her Catholic faith, gardening, and all animals. She made a big impact in the lives of her family, friends, and even strangers. Everyone she met was strengthened by her prayers, sense of humor, generous hugs, and saying “I Love You More”. She started a “Rosary” group at Windsor and even had one of the ladies convert to Catholicism. Her other important work was to lead a Senior Prayer Ministry directed by Sister Ann Pennington from St. Theresa. Sister would faithfully bring the Eucharist and the prayer intentions weekly. Ann was famous for always reassuring people that “God’s plan is perfect” and accepted her many crosses graciously. We are certain her prayer life will continue in Heaven for us all. Her biggest legacy is her devotion to God.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Austin for the love and care she received there. Also to Pat and Alice Short who faithfully brought her Holy Communion each Monday and to Sister Ann Pennington who visited every Tuesday and kept her active in the Senior Prayer Ministry, giving her life an added dimension and deeper meaning.
A Rosary will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church at 1:30 pm on Friday December 28 and the Funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Msgr. Bill Brooks officiating. Reverend Alberto Carbajal will concelebrate the Holy Mass. Internment will take place in Granger, Texas at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Theresa Catholic Church (memo: grotto) 4311 Small Drive, Austin, Texas 78731 OR to the ASPCA- American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (aspca.org).
