Ann Curtis Cook (Anna), 70, left her loving family and friends on July 28, 2016 in Austin, Texas. Ann was born into this world on August 11, 1945, in London, England, as a war baby to an English mother and an American father. Shortly thereafter, she was adopted by her loving Welsh parents Lily May and Cyril Pryce. Ann was brought up in south Wales, forever proud of her Welsh upbringing, countryside, rugby, scrumpy cider, childhood friends and all things Welsh. After spending some time traveling in the Bahamas and Canada, Ann returned home and enrolled in the University of London, earning a degree in English and Drama studies. Not too much later, Ann found her calling, and started her teaching career in London, England.
Ann met her husband James while he was working in London, and they were married there in March of 1980. Their first son Gareth was born in London prior to the family returning back to the states later that year. Their second son David was born in Binghamton, New York in 1982, and it was during this time that Ann earned her master's degree in early childhood development. In early 1985, Ann and family moved to Austin. It was after Gareth and David had entered elementary school that Ann rekindled her love for teaching - first at Leander High School, then as a teaching consultant, and then finally after retiring, continuing on as a substitute teacher in the Round Rock School district.
Anna was an amazing wife, mother, educator, and friend. She was strong willed and brave. As in all things she did, she fought the hard fight to the very end. Ann will be missed but will be forever in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Austin.
