Born in Germany on February 20, 1968, Andrea was adopted by her loving parents as an infant. She was raised primarily in Lesotho (South Africa) and Turkey. However, her childhood also included living and traveling around the globe through her parents’ U.S. State Department affiliation.
Upon returning to the U.S., Andrea spent the latter part of her too short life in Austin, Texas pursuing her passions for learning, teaching, and rescuing animals. Andrea was an active member of the Austin Gem & Mineral Society, and her enthusiasm, energy, and vast knowledge of rocks and minerals was apparent through her tireless efforts at the club’s annual shows. And her generosity was apparent both through the club and in her willingness to share her time and her treasured field trip finds with the neighborhood children.
Andrea was also admired for her compassion and devotion. She was always available to friends in need with a helping hand, advice, or simple comforting. And, as a loving daughter, she doted on her mother, especially when her mother started losing her eyesight. Andrea, thank you for your love, your laughter, and the joy you brought to so many. Your absence will be felt always.
Andrea is preceded in death by her parents, Dean Robert Miller and Helen Marie Gucker Miller.
She is survived by her life partner, Sian Schilhab, and her brother, Robert D. Miller.
Memorial Services will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 20th of August 2013, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
