Amir Amiri was born January 1st, 1995 in the hills of the beautiful city of Shiraz, Iran. He left Iran at the age of three and moved to the Netherlands. He died March 13, 2023 in San Antonio. He and his sister Aigin lived with their Oma and Opa in Groningen for five years before coming to the U.S. to be with their mom in Plano, Texas. He was extremely smart and loved school and spoke Farsi, Dutch, and English. He loved animals, nature, fishing, reading, games, gardening, finding all of the newest music, and he made friendships that lasted a lifetime. Amir was unapologetically himself and had his own style! He made soap for his Recovery Soap company and was very creative and energetic in everything he set out to do. He had a passion for telling jokes and healthy food. He was a world traveler and enjoyed so many journeys with family and friends.
Amir attended Westwood High School in Austin, TX and the University of Texas where he studied nutrition. He was very close to getting his LCDC which is Licensed Career Drug Counselor and was very active in San Antonio’s recovery community.
He was a deep thinker and could engage on almost any topic. In the last many years, he developed a strong belief in God which was very important to his recovery work. He was truly a student of the best aspects of faith and spirituality. His beautiful soul was manifest to many in recovery from San Antonio to Austin. He started and owned Redemption House sober living home in San Antonio and worked for ATX Recovery in Austin. He touched the lives of so many and left a lasting legacy of hope and compassion in their lives as well as finding wonderful friendships and teachers that anchored him.
His love of family was his strongest passion and his mother “was his world”. He loved his sister so deeply as well as his grandparents, aunts and uncle. His family members who live in Netherlands and Belgium were never far from him. He came to know his stepfather, Mark, as his father who adored and admired him as a proud father.
He is survived by his loving mother Souzan Arashvand and her husband Mark Hartwell, his dear sister Aigin (Alicia) Calhoun and her husband Marty, his grandparents Ghahraman Arashvand and Meymanant Beyrami-Arashvand, aunts: Mojgan Arashvand, Mojdeh Arashvand and Stephan Zwerver, Sara Arashvand and her husband Sander Hoogenboezem, his uncle Davood Arashvand and his wife Maaike van der Hoeven, and his step siblings: Marjorie Howell and husband Chris, Aaron Hartwell, Will Hartwell, and his awesome nieces and nephews: Armin, Yasmin, Rania, Luca, Danyal, Isabel, and Alexander. He will also be sorely missed by his girlfriend Kacey Gonzalez.
We will have a short graveside service at noon on Saturday, March 25th at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a Memorial in his honor at 3:00 PM at Violet Crown Church, 1300 Morrow St., Austin, Texas 78757. If anyone wants to send flowers, they can be sent in his name to Violet Crown church. The outpouring of love and support for all of us who he leaves behind has been humbling and we are very grateful to each of you.
