Alvin Max Ewald, of Austin, passed from this life surrounded by family on August 6, 2015, at the age of 85. He was born December 3, 1929, to Eddie and Lena Ewald. Alvin was the sixth of eleven children. On May 31, 1961 Alvin married the love of his life, Carolyn Henderson. They were blessed with 52 years of life together until March 24, 2014 Carolyn went to be with God. From this union their daughter Elizabeth was born.
Alvin was a rancher, farmer and welder for many years. One of his many prides was creating the steeple which sat atop the St Louis Catholic Church on Burnet Road for many years. Alvin never lost his love for animals or the earth. One of his many pleasures was planting and growing flowers and working in his yard. There was never a time when you could not find Alvin working in his yard surrounded by his many flowers. Alvin loved to drive his pickup truck and have visits with friends and family. Alvin never knew a stranger and dedicated his life to helping those less fortunate than himself.
Alvin adored his grandchildren and spent many happy moments spoiling them. His face lit up when he would see them.
Alvin is survived by: Daughter Elizabeth Ewald, daughter in law Lisa Thomas; grandchildren Alexey and Mary Ewald, Taylor Thomas, James Thomas and great grandchild Anakin Bilbrey. Sister: Della Barker; Brothers: Otto Ewald and Preston Ewald along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other family.
Alvin was preceded in death by: Parents Eddie and Lena, brothers: Robert, Walter, Drue and Bruno, sisters Alma Sprouse, Amanda Vinson and Ida Petrosky.
Alvin’s family is from Austin, Lockhart, Georgetown, Niederwald, Luling, Brady, Kyle and all over Texas, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
A Special Thanks to the many doctors and nurses at St. David’s Round Rock, ICU and Compassus Hospice care. Alvin lived at Longhorn Village in Steiner Ranch in his last days and had great staff and met several good friends. Alvin stayed at Park Valley Nursing as well and found several CNA’s, (Annette) and his driver Sharon to be awesome in his treatment. Alvin dealt with many great Doctors from his primary doctor James Hull, Anderson, Gage to Round Rock Doctor Urs, Sint and Lux.

A visitation will be held Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Cook Walden Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 10, 2015 at 10:00 am at Cook Walden Funeral Home at 6100 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX with burial to follow at Austin Memorial Park.
