Alberto Tapia

Vietnam War Veteran Alberto O. Tapia, age 78, of Buda, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Born in Uhland, Texas, he joined the United States Army in 1966 serving overseas in the Vietnam War and was discharged with full honors in 1968 receiving numerous awards during his military career. He was a proud U.S. Veteran who would proudly wear his Vietnam War Veteran hat and advocate for those who served during Vietnam.

His hobbies and career included restoring body paint on cars and hanging around at JT’s Automotive on the East Side of Austin. He also enjoyed spending time with his family in Dallas and Lubbock. Mr. Tapia could always be seen looking sharp with his cross around his neck and his Vietnam Service medal hanging on the left side of his dress shirt. He was a caring man with a big heart always thinking of others. His love for his family showed through his kind gestures and frequent visits when he was well.

Two special people played a significant role in Mr. Tapia’s life serving as a caregiver and niece. His caregiver and sister, Ms. Patricia (Cruza) Tapia showed incredible patience and tenderness over the past years always handling her brothers requests with strength and care. Thank you to Patricia (Cruza) for her love and support to her brother over the many years and during his final days.

His loving niece, Mrs. Emily (Prieta) Trevino had a special place in Mr. Tapia’s heart. Their relationship and bond was like no other. Emily helped preserve his dignity and manage his failing health with courage and those things mattered a lot to him. Her role in his life was even more than that and he appreciated the care and support she gave him over the years and especially during these past few months. Thank you to Emily for her love, patience, care and comfort. The way you have taken care of your uncle was beyond any description. His soul is sending you both blessings and appreciation.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Valentine Tapia and Gregoria Olivares and three brothers, Julian, Emilio, and Tomas Tapia.

He leaves behind his sisters, Patricia (Cruza) Tapia, Lupe Martinez (Dan Martinez), and Katie Barerra as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Chris Barrera, Jesse Barrera, Rudy Barrera, Carlos Tapia, Hector Tapia, Arthur Trevino and honorary pallbearers Robert Barrera and Emilio Tapia, Jr.

Military Honors will be presented at the graveside services.
