Adrienne Louise Long Barnett, 86, died peacefully in her sleep in Austin on Sunday, March 6, 2016. Adrienne was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on March 2, 1930 to Benjamin Joseph and Willie Dee Blackwood Long. She spent her early years in Louisiana before moving to Mineola, Texas. She graduated from Mineola High School in 1947 in 11 years. It was in Mineola that she met the love of her life James Paul Barnett. They were married in January 1949 and remained together until his death in 1997.
Adrienne is survived by six children: James Paul Barnett, Jr. (Eydie), John Fritz Barnett (Pam), Mary Margaret Barnett (Pete Malone), Teresa Anne Carrillo (Bobby), Patrick Joseph Barnett (Ginger) and Walter Christian Barnett; Siblings: Mary Jo Coulter, Eolior Yokus, Dale Long, Beadie Cambardella, Audie Long, Cathy Montoya, & Thomas Noel Long (deceased), 19 grandchildren: William Xavier Barnett, Robert Francis “Frank” Barnett, Jennifer Smith (James), Blake Rice, Lindsay Rice, Lauren Williams (Patrick), Meghan Brown (Terrance), Lily Pritchett (Cameron), Jesse Malone, Luke Malone (Lauren Pascale), Georgia Malone (Josh Seitman), Jose Barrera, Jimmy Barrera (Diamond), Hank Carrillo, Pamela Carrillo, Robby Carrillo (Ida Herrera), Claire Barnett (Rich MacVarish), Adele Mueschke (Nick), Colin Barnett (Mariah) and 10 great grandchildren.
Adrienne lived in Corpus Christi for 41 years and taught English, history and economics at Wynn-Seale & Baker Junior Highs, Ray High School, and Del Mar College. She was an avid life-long quilter and a member of a quilting guild. She was devoted to and very active in her parish, Most Precious Blood. Among other causes and activities, she was active in Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society.
A Holy Rosary will be held Saturday March 12th, 2016, 9 am at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am. The internment is scheduled for 11 am Sunday, March 13th, in Mineola, TX at Sand Springs Cemetery, Mineola Texas, under the direction of Beaty Funeral Home. A memorial is planned at Brookdale of Spicewood Springs, Austin, March 17th at 2pm.
The Family would like to extend a special thanks to the Brookdale Assisted Living Staff and caregivers Michelle Hyland, Haydee Lamb, and Myka Winn. Adrienne was an inveterate giver. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be donated to Support-Our-Aging-Religious or charity of your choice.
