Aaron Joseph Fox unexpectedly passed away August 20, 2022, while cycling through Austin with friends. Aaron, a beloved husband, father, brother and son, was born in Ann Arbor, MI, on July 27, 1977, and grew up in Salt Lake City, UT. He moved to Austin to attend The University of Texas to study engineering, and shortly thereafter, met his soulmate Cara Devetski. They married and moved to Atlanta, where Aaron worked for Manhattan Associates and later Bain & Company. It was here that he and Cara started their family, having three boys in rapid succession and taking a fun career detour for Aaron to complete his MBA at Emory University with small children in tow. Later, their family of five moved back to Austin where he worked with incredible teams at Dell, Lyft and most recently Rev, which he loved so much. He was a hard worker who gave his all to his profession.
A born competitor, Aaron was a lover of games and sport. As a child/teen, he was a ranked chess player who was also skilled at Street Fighter and Golden Tee and loved to play basketball and ski with friends. As an adult, he loved watching/attending sporting events with his sports-loving son and playing Clash of Clans with his sons and friends until they kicked him out of the Clan for scoring too many points while they were at school. He turned his intense attention to building his Clash Royale career solo. In recent years, Aaron could be found daily on the streets, trails, and bodies of water around Austin as he pursued ultra-marathon and half Iron-Man fitness goals. A full Iron Man was next on the list.
More than anything, Aaron was an exemplary husband and father. He was Cara’s relentless #1 cheerleader - supporting her fully through juggling motherhood with a career she loved and faithfully attending and donating to countless volunteer and fundraising events in her nonprofit career. From the moment he changed his first diaper hours after his oldest was born, he was the most hands-on dad imaginable and could be found front and center at every soccer game and concert in which his boys participated. Not exactly a camping kind of guy, he rose to the occasion and took a turn leading Cub Scout Pack 66 as Pack Leader for two years and it became his most fulfilling volunteer experience. Aaron was a cat person, which is how he got talked into adopting four of them - including his favorite, the terrorizing Siamese Yeti. The love was mutual.
Aaron is survived by his wife Cara; their three sons, Peter Cade, Andrew and Joshua; his mother Katherine Fox and sister Leah Fox. He is preceded in death by his father, Jeffrey Fox, and step-father, Norbert Bensch.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 28, 2022 at 2:30 pm at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, 7127 Bee Caves Road, Austin, TX, with a reception to immediately follow in the church dining hall and gym. Please use the Barton Creek Boulevard entrance for parking and safety. Aaron was not a fan of formal attire and as a valued tech employee he enjoyed a steady stream of free t-shirts, so we invite those attending the service who also prefer comfortable attire to wear their favorite free t-shirt to honor him. As members of Westlake United Methodist Church, the family is grateful to our neighboring church for hosting the service.
Aaron had many spectators and cheerleaders from around the country and world, and we know that not everyone who wants to come will be able to attend. A live stream is not available, but a link will be shared afterwards and the family is grateful to each and every person who participates from afar via thoughts and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Austin Humane Society, Westbank Library, or the Trail Foundation in Aaron’s name.
