Mike was a wonderful human being and a gentleman from another era.  I met Mike when my horse was stabled at Trillium, and I have never forgotten him.  He was larger than life.  I was blessed to be able to help him with minor chores around the farm, and on the rare occasion that a horse problem caused him difficulty, I was honored that he sought out my help.  He was so kind to attend the "birthday party" that I threw for the mare's 25th birthday - beans on toast and birthday cake.  I don't think he would have missed it.  We knew of his lunches with his great aunt, and we all knew "Betty" by name.  My sincere condolences to Mrs. Betty van Nostrand and the family of Mike van Nostrand.  He will undoubtedly be missed. I’m just learning of Mike’s passing. I am so sorry for your loss. He was a good friend & neighbour of my parents Gord & Audrey Mackey. I have so many memories,. His smile comes to mind first off. His willingness to help out when needed. Such a kind man. He was a big part of the Vandorf community. My condolences goes to all his family.

In life we have interludes with many different people. Some are in our lives for brief periods & others for many years.  I found Mike to be a 'Gentle Giant' with a kind soul.  Although he was briefly in my life,  several of his grandchildren have been connected to mine for many years & I most recently reconnected with his son Paul which has been especially enjoyable.

My thoughts are with all the family members. It is never easy to lose a spouse, father, grandfather, great grandfather. May the many memories etched in your hearts bring some comfort over the coming days & months

I met Mike at the hockey rink, he was so proud watching his grandson Michael play hockey. I remember thinking this guy is a strong confident person. I’ll always remember him that way.

Betty: so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. Another of the long time “Vandorfians” has left us. We have very fond memories of conversations with Mike in the store, “rolling” his cigarettes, joking with mom and dad…Mike always had a good story or joke to tell. Paul and I feel grateful for the opportunity  we had of visiting with you and Mike earlier this year. I know you and all the family will miss him dearly. Please know we are thinking of you.

Uncle Mike always seemed to "just be there", when we visited Ontario from Nova Scotia.  He touched a lot of people with his fun loving involving way.  His life span was amazing as the eldest of his siblings.





A great friend for many years, time spent with him at the Lake building the addition and holidaying with my family. Later years cooking with Mike during hunting.
