Betty Gladys Stanley

Betty Gladys Stanley (nee Headon) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Bradford Valley Care Community at the age of 97. She was the wife of Ken Stanley (d. 2008) and they shared 55 years of loving marriage together.

Born in Hamilton, Ontario on April 3, 1926, Betty was the daughter of William “Bill” Headon and Audrey Headon (nee Trembley). She worked at McMaster University where she met her husband Ken and was later recognized as an honorary member of the Letterman Association for her contributions of service.

Betty loved spending her summers with her family at their cottage on the shores of Georgian Bay. She also enjoyed birding, quilting, curling, reading mystery novels, and doing puzzles. She will be remembered for her strength of character, wit, practical approach, and steadfast support for those she loved. Betty was an avid Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Toronto Blue Jays, and Toronto Raptors fan and was an encyclopedia of all things sports.

Betty was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Alfred Stanley (d. 2008), her son David William Stanley (d. 1999), her daughter Catharine Anne Stanley (d. 2006), her son-in-law Andrew Held (d. 2019), her brother William “Bill” Headon (d. 2011), her sister Jean Headon (d. 2019), and her brother Melvin “Mel” Headon (d. 2017).

She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Mary Stanley, her son-in-law Keith Norman West, and her daughter-in-law Nancy Ann Scott Stanley. She was the loving grandmother of Heather Stanley, James Stanley, Andrew Held, Sarah Held, Jennifer Held, Meagan Held, Caitlin Reinders (nee West), Rachel McFarlane (nee West), Sarah West, and Robert West. Great grandmother of Waverly West, Joshua Hewson, Parker Hewson, and Cooper Hewson.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Betty’s life at Newmarket Alliance Church, 1140 Gorham Street, Newmarket at 3pm on Thursday, January 4th, 2024.
