Mary Ellen Archer, age 87, entered into eternal rest on November 5, 2024. She was born March 8, 1937 in Mt. Vernon, New York. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ellen and Joseph Maiello; her loving husband, Edward (Ray) Archer; her brother, Louis Maiello; and her son, Edward Archer, Jr.
Mary graduated Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School (New York) in 1951. On July 29, 1956, Mary married Edward (Ray) Archer and began their life of Army services. After being stationed in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Aberdeen Proving Grounds and Ft. Mead in Maryland, Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, and Ft. Clayton, Panama Canal Zone, the family retired from the military in 1978 in Ft. Gordon, Augusta, Georgia.
After Ray passed away in 1981, Mary volunteered at Meadowbrook Elementary School and Bayvale Elementary School as a PTA volunteer. Mary served in various positions through the years – from Secretary to President. Mary was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Augusta, Georgia for over thirty years. Mary was also heavily involved in the Augusta Chapter 0110 of TOPS, again serving many years in many different positions – including Chapter 0110 Tops Queen!
Mary is survived by her children, Karen Bailey, Sharon (Robbie) Brax, and Brian Archer; Grandchildren, Craig (Kim) Archer, Amanda (Duke) Berisford, Daniel (Angela) Hopson, Chris (Lindsay) Cooper, Heather (Johnny) Eagle, Rebecca Archer, Madeline Archer, and Emily Archer; Great Grandchildren, Caitlin and Lily Berisford, Rylee and Avery Hopson, Coleman Archer, and Evan Cooper; her brothers, Mike (Cindy) Maiello and Steve (Janeth) Maiello; and many extended family members and lifelong friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-6pm on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Road. A rosary will follow at 6pm at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held at 11am, Monday, November 11, 2024 at St, Joseph Catholic Church in Augusta, GA. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
