Barbara Fitzgerald

Barbara Fitzgerald, age 71, of Augusta Georgia, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on August 20, 2023. She was born on October 22, 1951. She is the daughter of the late William and Mable Garcia. Barbara is survived by her brother, William Garcia (Kris) and her sister, the late Adele Vitchkoski (Paul). Barbara was a 1969 graduate of Butler High School and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Augusta College. She taught in Richmond County Schools for 30 years.

Barbara leaves behind her loving husband of 53 years, Timothy Fitzgerald. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Christina McNeely (Chris), Timothy Fitzgerald, II (Edith), and Elizabeth Comella (James), and nine grandchildren, Steven Fitzgerald (Allyson), Brooke Ciomei (Matt), Breanna Fairgrieve (Dan), Preston Comella, Natalie Fitzgerald, Madison McNeely, Alex Comella, Sean Fitzgerald, and Tori Comella. Barbara was an excited great-grandmother to be and was looking forward to the joy of meeting her first great grandchild.

Barbara loved her family more than anything and if she could have lived off that love, she would have lived forever. Her legacy will forever be cherished by her family. We will remember her smile, her passionate demeanor, and her love for her pets. Her legacy will remain an inspiration to us all, a reminder of the enduring power of love, faith, and family.

The family of Barbara Fitzgerald wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Hands of Grace Hospice Care and the numerous nurses and doctors who cared for her during her time of medical needs.

The family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road. A memorial graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 2700 Deans Bridge Road on Thursday, August 24 at 11:00 am.
