1935-2022
Auburn- Robert R. Laganiere, 86, of New Auburn, passed away on January 30, at his home after a long illness. Robert was born on March 23, 1935, in Lewiston, to Emillien and Edwina ( Levesque) Laganiere and was the youngest of seven children. He attended St. Louis School and graduated from ELHS , class of 1954. As a young boy, he enjoyed playing baseball and hockey, later in mid-life, he mastered the game of golf.
Following graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany. Robert married Lorraine Turcotte on December 19, 1955. After a long illness, Lorraine passed in May, 1998. Robert was employed as a photo engraver at the Lewiston Sun Journal retiring after 41 years of service.
He was a committed parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Louis and Sacred Heart. While at St. Louis, Robert served on numerous committees including Booster Club, Parish Council and Music Ministry. In addition, he served on the credit committee at the New Auburn Federal Credit Union.
In June, 2001, Robert married Anita Croteau. Together they built a new home, traveled and cherished activities and gatherings with with family and friends. They were happily married for 20 years.
Robert is survived by his wife, Anita Laganiere; his daughter, Ann Marie Laganiere; one sister, Lorraine Plante; sister-in-law, Priscilla Laganiere; brother-in-law, Robert Turcotte; and grandchildren Seth Laganiere; Amy Maroon; Beth Keough; Glen Lane; Rebecca Smith; Kali Bisson; Robert Gilman; and 10 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his step daughters; Linda Hanson ( William ); Donna Wing ( Timothy); Paula Sullivan (Thomas); Debora Philbrook ( Michael); Lisa Hummes ( Peter); step son; Robert Croteau Jr.; and step grandchildren Eric Hanson; Craig Hanson; Jenna MacDonald, Ryan Sullivan; Elizabeth Sullivan; Kyle Philbrook; James Philbrook; Kelly Philbrook; Corey LaRue; Nicole LaRue; Courtney Croteau; and 9 step great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; two sons, Gerard and Roger Laganiere; two brothers, Raymond and Roland Laganiere; three sisters, Muriel Boudreaux; Doris Nelson; Rejeanne Kenny.
There will be no visitation hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, February 9th at 11am the Sacred Heart Church, 24 Sacred Heart Place, Auburn. The family requests all attendees wear mask to show respect for everyone's well-being.
