She was the daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Sawyer) Burns. She was an Auburn native, graduating from Edward Little High School where she met the love of her life John A “Sonny” Capen II. He later passed in 2003 after 46 years of marriage. She was a devoted homemaker and together they raised their family in Auburn, later moving to Leeds to enjoy their “golden years” on the lake.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and wife. Family was always a priority and passion for Joyce. She loved hosting holidays and attending school/sports events. Every moment together mattered, even little moments like eating snacks on the boat or by the pool, or taking an hour to play a board game. She loved nothing more than cheering for her Red Sox with her boys by her side.
She was a social butterfly. To say she loved bingo was an understatement, going many times a week and even creating her own friendly bingo parties in the house. She enjoyed Christmas in July at the Hemlock campground, traveling and exploring new places, and wouldn’t miss a chance to dance when able. Joyce was filled with life and was more than happy to help spread joy to others, there are no words to express how much she will be missed.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by; her siblings William, Richard, Robert, Charles, Marion, and Beverly; her son David and grandchildren Catherine and David.
She is survived by her two daughters Brenda and Maureen of Minot, Son John III and her daughter in law Beth of Leeds; two sisters Sandra (Gard) Leavitt and Evelyn Dulac; five grandchildren Rayleen, Raymond (Renee), Nachole, John IV (Amanda), Kristen (Ashley); and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Andwell for their care and compassion during her final days.
