1920 - 2018
PALM COAST, FLORIDA – Barbara Sinclair Rogers, age 97, peacefully passed away on July 31, 2018.
Barbara was born on October 22, 1920 to Wellington and Mary Bjorkman Sinclair. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1938 and Bliss College in 1940.
She married Sidney D. Rogers on May 18, 1947. As a stay-at-home mother, she raised her children: Marilyn Rogers Lheureux “Lynn” and Sidney D. Rogers, Jr. “Buddy”. Barbara was an active volunteer in the schools and served as a Brownie, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. When it was time for her children to go to college, she returned to the work force. She worked many years for Auburn Urban Renewal Authority and when that program was finalized, she finished her career working with Bill Lever at State Mutual Insurance Company.
After her retirement, she became active playing bridge and enjoying her card games with the “Class of 38” girls. She also had more time to spend with her grandchildren, going to Little League games and travel hockey games, wherever they were playing and the boys would look up to make sure their grandparents were in the stands. She and Sid spent many happy times on Frye Island visiting their grandchildren that traveled to Maine each summer.
She and Sid wintered in Florida for over 20 years, but thoroughly enjoyed Maine, their “true home”. Both were voracious readers and could be found sitting in their recliners, on their sun porch, happily reading and completing crossword puzzles.
In 2005, Barbara and Sid relocated to Palm Coast, Florida. Sid passed away in February 2010 and Barbara eventually moved to an assisted living facility in Palm Coast. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Home Sweet Home and all of her care givers where she received so much love and excellent attentive care.
Barbara certainly appreciated the many kind visits from Linda and George Sullo and playing Yahtzee with Carol Walczak. She had great affection for her dear friend Dorothy Buchanan, who would talk and SKYPE together regularly.
Barbara’s kind ways and personality will be missed by those she leaves behind: Daughter, Lynn (Dan) Lheureux; her two sons: Scott (Melissa) Desgrosseilliers and Andrew (Jimena) Desgrosseilliers; Son, Buddy (Anne) Rogers; their two sons: Nicolas (Charity) Rogers and Christopher Rogers: her great-grandchildren Mia, Lily, Maximus and Adaline Coco Desgrosseilliers; nephews: John, Jim and Jay Wakefield; nieces: Sheila Ray, Nancy Bartlett, Beverly Preble, Geraldine Callahan and Kathy Young Cruz.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Wellington and Mary Bjorkman Sinclair, her first husband who was killed in WWII, LT. Irving Clark, her husband of 63 wonderful married years, Sidney D. Rogers, a sister, Eleanor Wakefield and beloved sister-in-laws Geraldine Rogers Simpson and Eileen Clark Young.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation Wednesday August 22nd from 11 am to 12 noon at The Fortin Group Funeral Home 217 Turner Street, Auburn, Maine 04210. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Auburn, Maine. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to: Home Sweet Home, 6 Emerson Drive, Palm Coast, FL 32164
