Joan Carol Myers

Joan Carol Myers, age 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, May 14, 2016. She is survived by her beloved children, Chuck (Lori) Myers, Joy (Jim) Convis, and Jill (Danny) Helton; her grandchildren, Shannon Rousselow, Ashlee Sievert, Chelsea Convis, Caedy Convis, Claire Convis, Celah Convis, Jackson Convis and Cierra Convis and Bailee Helton and Caleb Helton; her great-grandchildren Drake and Bella Rousselow and Jace Sievert.

Joan was born September 16, 1933 in Mount Clemens, Michigan, as an answer to prayer to God-fearing parents, Charles and Hilda (Schramm) Singer. Her life was dedicated to the Lord and by the time she was able to speak, she was known as a prodigy in the memorization of Scriptures. By the age of 2 ½ she was able to quote many verses and even whole chapters of the Bible. She was interviewed by local reporters who said that “little Joanie Singer is amazing”. Joan was also known as a gifted saxophonist and her talent was in demand at many youth crusades and evangelistic rallies. The numerous offers of the world were turned aside for the greater glory of God and Joan ministered in music all over the world.

As her life progressed, she bore a lasting testimony to her Christian upbringing and early conversion. Joan was an active member of Bethel Temple in New Baltimore, Michigan, until she married Richard Myers on December 5, 1953.

Joan and Richard pastored a church in Pontiac, Michigan until going out on the evangelistic and missionary fields in 1964. They founded Avondale Faith Tabernacle in December of 1976 and ministered together there until being called home to heaven.

Along with Joan’s dedication and love for the Lord, was a deep and committed love for her family and others. Her ability to connect with and care for people shone most brightly in her role as a pastor’s wife and it brought many people not only to the church, but also to the family of God.

It is impossible to honor and remember most of Joan’s life on earth without also remembering her beloved husband, Richard “Dick” Myers. Dick went home to be with the Lord just one day shy of their 62nd wedding anniversary, last December. Together they were a perfect example of two becoming one, both stronger and better with the other alongside. Joan served as a faithful helpmate, a devoted and doting grandmother and great-grandmother, and a hospitable homemaker, always willing to open her home to friends and strangers alike.

Both Joan and Richard were living examples of faithfulness, humility, love, and a life spent selflessly serving others. For all of us fortunate to be in their lives, it was as if God Himself reached out and touched us with His very character. And once touched, forever changed for the better. They both fought a good fight, finished the course and kept the faith and have now received the reward for lives well-lived and dedicated to serving the Lord.

It brings our family great peace and immeasurable comfort to know they are together again, rejoicing in the presence of their Savior in perfect health and eternal joy. They finally each heard the words they lived their whole lives to hear, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”
