Bruce was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 22, 1946, the son of Alexander and Alice (Cnockaert). He graduated from L’Anse Creuse High School in Harrison Township, Michigan, class of 1965. Bruce graduated pre-law from Wayne State University before being drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in the Panama Canal zone as a communications specialist. Bruce raised his family in Algonac with his former wife Connie (Bierl). He later moved to Rochester Hills where he met his partner of 29 years, Linda Michno. He had a career as a software programmer for Macomb Intermediate School District.
In their retirement, Bruce and Linda traveled the world, from South and North America (he especially loved Vancouver Island), to Europe and Africa, to Polynesia and Australia. Exercise and staying healthy were important to Bruce — an interest he shared with Linda, whom he met at the gym. He was a fervent seeker of knowledge and understanding. He was observant and exploratory and had an engineer’s mind for tinkering and problem solving, a boundless curiosity about how things worked. He was skilled in many areas and never stopped learning. Bruce had several pursuits in his retirement, but always made time for family and helping others when they needed it. He was a proud veteran and loved military history.
Bruce is survived by his partner Linda Michno; children Glenn Taylor, Chad (Daveena) Taylor, Robb (Noelle) Taylor, and Mandy Taylor; grandchildren Reid, Clea, Madison, Cameron, Reagan, Avery, Quinn, Josie, and Isobel; and sister Jean (Jim) McKay. Bruce is predeceased by his parents.
A graveside memorial service will be held this summer at Great Lakes National Cemetery, located at 4200 Belford Road in Holly, Michigan, where he will be laid to rest.
