Integrity - Selflessness - Honor
Normally these three words only serve a purpose in a conversation. But to the IKF- they mean so much more. Those three words describe a man we all know and love - our leader, Steve Fossum. 
For over 40 Years, Steve dedicated his life to the Martial Arts Industry. He was a gym owner, promoter, regulator, and Fighter with a record of 104 Wins, 2 Losses, with 102 of those wins coming by knockout! But his most prestigious accomplishment was being the President and CEO of the International Kickboxing Federation. 
For many, this is the first time learning a little about Steve's history. This is because Steve always had a sense of humility. He believed that no man held a higher position than another, that every man is equal to the one right next to them. Steve instilled a sense of humility, and teamwork to many. 
Steve touched thousands of lives through his mentorship and helped many reach personal heights they never thought they could. Known for his affinity for following the rules, his strong ethical code has attributed to the safe regulation and organized growth of the sport of Muay Thai & Kickboxing around the world.
On October 3rd, 2022, the Lord decided to  welcome Steve into his Kingdom. Though we may never fully understand why his time here was cut short, we know that Steve is looking down from above, free, happy, and at peace. We believe a piece of us joined Steve that day, as each of us feel a hole in our hearts. But we are grateful, honored, and blessed knowing we had the opportunity to be a part of his life. Steve, though you may not be here with us, your legacy will continue to leave an everlasting impact. The IKF is indebted to you. And we are forever honored to have been a part of your Legacy.
One of Steve's favorite sayings was: 
"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by; and that has made all the difference"
Well Steve, you can now say- that this quote- this DREAM- you have turned into reality.

Although, the training with Steve was hard he didn’t expect anything from his students that he himself wasn’t willing to do. He was a dedicated, focused and disciplined person, all traits a good martial arts instructor and mentor should possess. He took a sincere interest in not just your training but your life. He encouraged you not to look to him for your limits but to look beyond him. He inspired and motivated his students to continue to push past their perceived limits. He built a school that felt like an extended family that has come with life-long friendships who share a unique bond because we trained with Steve. 
I would not be who I am without his influence, presence and guidance. He will be incredibly missed. I am truly blessed that I can say I got to call him my Sensei, mentor and friend. 
Toni and Fallyn, our family is just heart-broken for you. I know there is no better protector of Steve’s legacy than you two. Your strength and fortitude to lead the IKF forward is a testament to the type of relationships Steve built with the people he cared about.

Rest well Sir, my first Sensei. Thank you for introducing me to the world of martial arts at 13, still practicing at 51. I was blessed to attend (and DJ) the first several IKF events and was so proud to see you follow your dreams and build it into a worldwide organization. You have an amazing family and my heart aches to read your daughter's touching goodbye. We should all be so lucky to experience such love. Thank you for all that you did to help shape my life. God's speed.

I pray for you and your mom as you transition to this next chapter of life without your dad here by your side. He was passionate, charismatic and will be missed by many. It was a pleasure and honor to know him. I'm sure he and my mom, Rebecca, will be debating about officials or athletes or something else! You had a great dad! I hope that you speak of him often and share the lessons and stories you have from him. Hs legacy lives on within you. Hugs to you and your amazing mom.

I'm so incredibly sad to hear of the loss of Steve Fossum, President of the IKF. Steve Fossum was the nicest guy... When he called me "champ", it felt better than any belt around my waist. I don't think I've called anyone, "Mr." in adulthood... I definitely don't think I called him "Steve", one time... although we're not too far apart in age. I called him Mr. Fossum. His accomplishments with his organization, his kindness and humility and the respect he gave, deserved as much respect as I could give him. He made me feel like a World Champion, long before I won my IKF World Title, cuz he was just that kind of guy. RIP Mr. Fossum.

It seems to always be the good ones that go way sooner then they should have. Too bad we couldn't have ran into each other again at another fight so I could thank you for the advice and helping me get my name out there to help my modeling and ring girl career. I'm glad I got to meet you and be a part of this love and guidance that you seem to have given to so many and I hope wherever you are at now, that you are still kicking butt!

Though we didn't always agree, I've never doubted Steve's commitment to our sport or the sincerity of his efforts to ensure that events were well-regulated.  Steve put his unique stamp on our industry, and I know for certain that his contribution will never be forgotten.  Rest in Peace Sir.

My heart is broken but I know Steve Fossum is now walking amongst the greats. Heard the news about Steve Fossum passing yesterday and I needed a minute to process this. Steve was always ALWAYS respectful to me even when we disagreed on a topic. He was always ready with the jokes and friendly banter. He's seen me at some "low" points and remained cool to me. Love him or hate him, he did big things for Muay Thai and kickboxing in So Cal. He will be missed. Rest in Valhalla, sir.

RIP Steve Fossum he was a Huge influence on so many martial arts Fighters.  A positive light in tuff business. He will be missed, a real trail blazer.

The world lost a great guy today.  Steve Fossum gave a lot of us the opportunity to reach greatness in the kickboxing world.  Even years after I fought for the IKF he would always call me “champ.”  Rest In Peace Brother.

It was 2001 and Mr.Steve Fossum took team USA to fight in MYANMAR, BURMA, First Americans to fight in Burma - 
Lethwei, full contact bare knuckle kickboxing with takedowns, Elbows, and Knees! Rough as hell! Mr Steve Fossum  was a legend for the IKF and ISCF. It was an honor to have fought for him and represent TEAM USA 🇺🇸 Steve you will be missed.

Steve Fossum was not defined by 3 letters, he was so much bigger than that. He was defined by his Character, Perseverance, Strength, Determination, Strong Will and ability to roll with the punches! 
The sniffle that you'd do every time you were feeling a little uneasy about something, the dry sarcasm, the sideways smile followed by the short laugh that usually indicated approval, agreement, or the sheer ridiculousness of whatever was said. All the stories shared about your childhood, your motivations, your realizations/ lessons of experience past. Milestones...It all made you who you were. It all gave you the tools to give back to others however possible... through encouragement, warnings (been there, done that moments), reminiscing and finally in the past few years learning how to live in the moment. Getting out of your workaholic comfort zone. 
Not everything was easy, but it was easy to figure out solutions together at all hours of the day and night. If we didn't agree we heard each other out, revisited and determined a course of action. It took pulling teeth, but sometimes we got you to put down the work for a minute and get out to explore a bit. We weren't always the best of friends, but we were the best kind of friends. We said it like it was, (no sugar coating) when something was on your mind you definitely let the world know it. I appreciate it all. Thank you for touching our lives, being a part of the journey and paving the way for all the great things to come. We love and will forever miss you Steve. RIP

I take solace in knowing that our time together over the past 34 yrs has been spent well my brother. Although you will be laid to rest tomorrow, you will be with me and so many with every new adventure we take. People only die when they are forgotten, you’ve made that an impossible feat! I’ll forever cherish the travels around the world, the dreams realized together & the adventures taken together. Every conversation and heart to heart that we laughed, cried and hugged out together, Thank you! We may not be walking the whole road together, but I know that you’ll be lighting the path ahead for the rest of us just to make it a little easier. I’m gonna miss you every day brother, rest easy my friend.

Rest in peace Steve Fossum. You accepted me into the MMA community from the very beginning and I can honestly say Westcoastfighting Championship would have never happened without your help. Words cannot express how much Steve influenced my life. I started training with Steve when I was a teenager in Lake of the Pines. He put me underneath his wing and I followed him to the Newcastle School, which was my dad's old cabinet shop. Even though I came and I went until my 20s leaving for the military, I always knew when I returned I was going back home. He taught me how to use Martial Arts in everyday life. I remember being part of the ring crew at the beginning stages of IKF, as well as part of the crew on the short local tv show "The World of Martial Arts". Steve took a scared teenager and through his teachings he ingrained into me that "it's not what you know, it's what you are willing to do!" Thank you Steve. I will never forget!

I attribute so much of my success to the building blocks Steve provided me with over the years. I trained with him for all 4 years of high school, we maintained a friendship from then on. He certainly had a knack for making every person he spoke to feel as though they were the most important person to him at that time. He taught patience, kindness, humor, sarcasm and love. And he also was vicious in the ring and on the mats. I will forever be grateful for having him in my life. 

This is very sad news. Thank you for your dedication and all you did to advance our sport and its recognition. Your commitment is and will be missed. It is hard to lose someone of value. Rest in peace Steve. My deepest condolences to your family. 

I was very saddened to hear about Steve. I just wanted to let you know - as I'm sure you are aware - that Steve has been a tremendous positive force in the Martial Arts community and is immensely respected. It has been an honor to have met him many times over the years and observe the Martial Arts Community blossom under his esteemed tutelage. 23 years ago, I fought in the first ever IKF/RINGSIDE amateur tournament. Steve Fossum, President of the IKF through his willingness and determination brought full contact kickboxing and Muay Thai to the states in amateur competition in a way that no other promotion has since. He had a catch phrase, "Walk The Walk." You were the epitome of walk the walk my friend, you nor your contribution to fight sports will never be forgotten. R.I.P. friend. I have known Steve sinc the early 1990s and I watched the development of the I.K.F.  It was inspiring to watch Steve put in so much work for the betterment of our sport.  Steve was always fair and a great guy. Even though I was from another gym, competing against his stable of fighters, he was always a friend.  Even when I was fighting one of his fighters, we had lunch together before the fight and visited after the fight.  Steve was always a Class Act, with honor and integrity. I want to thank you again, Steve, for allowing me to fight for and wear 2  I.K.F. Championship belts around my waist.  It was an honor to be apart of the I.K.F. Family.  In one way or another, you have touched thousands of lives for the better. You have left behind very big shoes to fill and I don’t think anyone is capable of the task.

His help and support as an advisor and mentor helped massively to establish the successful format that we experienced, during the Noughties in particular. I need not delineate on that period as it speaks for itself, in particular domestically.
Although in recent years, Colin has stepped down from this area of the industry, and I was in the process of doing so, this in no way impacted on our relationship with Steve, who was supportive and understanding throughout. 
We are devastated at his passing at such a young age and extend our deepest sympathy and support to his wife Toni and daughter Fallyn, whose dignified and positive stance throughout this terrible ordeal have been an inspiration to all.
We thank you Steve for the platform and opportunity, along with the guidance and support extended to us throughout the years.
We are sure that wherever you are, you will be crossing the i's and dotting the t's, ensuring that all is in order for everyone else who follows!

On behalf of myself, Colin Payne (Former IKF European Director), and Pete Foley (IKF Ireland Director), it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of IKF CEO Steve Fossum at the age of 61.
Tributes have been pouring in from across the globe for a man who stood for Honesty, Integrity & Correctness.
You can read many stories about him across the internet this week, and it is only right that we pay our own respects.
When we were recruited to represent the IKF, around 15 years ago, all of us had been in the sport of Kickboxing for a long time and worked alongside some great people. Many had made great strides within the industry, and we just wanted to build on that.
In such a fragmented and difficult environment, Steve Fossum was a breath of fresh air. 
He insisted on correct protocol and whilst he gave us a free reign to develop the scene here, we were often taken to task regarding decisions we had made. For the most part he was happy once we had explained, but it showed that he missed absolutely nothing, in any area.
His attention to detail has ensured that just about every statistic going back to the first IKF event in August 1992, is recorded and available to this day for your inspection. Heaven knows we spent enough hours submitting the information and correcting typos when he returned a report to us, having read every single word!!


It was an absolute pleasure both knowing and working with Steve. We met face to face only 3 or 4 times, 2 of those when we attended the IKF World Classic in Florida, but I liked him from the off. A good man, with the best interests of the sport at heart. 
He had a great vision and aspirations for the sport that he loved that very few could match. His passing is a massive loss to the combat sports world.
Finally and most importantly my sincerest condolences to his wife Toni, daughter Fallyn and all their family and friends. We have lost a good man.

Losing someone you love is at the top of the list of the most difficult challenges we face in life. Please know that you are not alone in going through this, even though it seems that way right now. I hope you have enough support to get you through this time without feeling alone. My boss, my friend continue resting in peace, as the head of Uganda 🇺🇬 team to IKF we will miss him a lot.

It feels unreal, knowing you won't be able to experience so much with mom and I, even though we know you will be right by our side every step of the way. All mom and I can say is how much we love you, and thank you for everything you have done for us. I am so lucky to have had such a wonderful and loving father who has provided me with more than one could ask for. I promise you that I will continue to make you proud. I promise that I will uphold your legacy and everything you stood for. But most importantly, I want you to know, that I will be forever proud to call myself your daughter. Mom and I love and miss you more than you could ever begin to imagine. We would do anything to have you back home with us. But we know you already are home. Maybe not physically, but we feel and see you presence. Our love for you is indescribable. 
But there is one phrase. One that can describe it better than anything else. It is your phrase. "I love us."

It's hard to realize that it has already been one month since we spent our final moments together. 
At times I still find it difficult to grasp the fact that you will never be coming home with us. Sometimes it feels more real than others. And when that feeling comes on, I try to pretend as if it's not there. But I know that is only doing more harm than good. It all became very real again, seeing you be lowered to your eternal resting place, because I knew then, it was final. The only thing that can bring us peace, is knowing that you are no longer suffering, and that you are free. It is certainly not easy, but we learn to manage like we always do. We'll "live." I'll never understand why our time together was cut so incredibly short. Your words, "Where did those years go?" never meant so much until now. Because now, I understand what you meant each time you said that phrase. Our family was able to do so much, and be so much in the little time we had together. Our trips to Disneyland, the Mountains, and the Beach. Our Wednesday Nights that we would spend at home eating Mountain Mike's Pizza watching the Chicago Series. Getting snowed in and going outside to play in it, even though you got PTSD from my 6th Grade Field Trip to Yosemite in February. Flying down the freeway to get me to school on time every morning for 9 years because I hated mornings and was always running late. Trying something new and deciding you didn't like it, so you had mom try it, just to validate your point  that it wasn't good. Taking mom and I out to dinner every week to Dingus McGees, and us eating alligator together. (Almost became a ritual at that point.) These are all things that I know I will never forget.

In 2011 I had a tremendous opportunity to learn, train and work as a Referee and Judge for the IKF International Kickboxing & Muay Thai Federation being the only Latin American in that position. What an honor and what a great responsibility.
That lasted for 5 years in a row where I also learned a lot at the level of athletic commissions, events and of course arbitration together with representatives of the ISCF International Sports Combat Federation and athletic commissions from different parts from the USA.
The following year (2017) I was complicated work, personal, economically the power to accommodate me to attend this event that is only given 1 time a year.
Spoke to Steve Fossum, a pioneer in contact sports, promoter and spectacular person!
His response I always keep with deep respect and affection. 
New projects arrived, pandemic and it became difficult to keep attending.
We lost Mr Fossum today after a complicated battle
from an aneurysm.
Today I take on the great teachings, human quality and kindness that I always received from Mr. Fossum. Never lacked words of praise, respect, admiration and correction.
Always on his central throne, high chair, spectacularly controlling 3 Rings simultaneously, sometimes with 3 different disciplines!
Amazing presence, experience, a great leader!
I join all my IKF family, ISCF, colleagues, promoters, his wife Toni Fossum , his daughter Fallyn Fossum , great people!

I was Steve's and the IKFs first referee. Probably for the first 20 shows. I've known Steve and Toni for 30 years. So sorry to hear about Steve, great guy!

Knew him when he was just a teen and friends with my teenagers. His parents were great people and raised a true gentleman. Me and my family extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to his wife and daughter and all who loved him.

Steve has left quite a legacy having been the World President of the International Kickboxing Federation, a sanctioning body dedicated to the safety and regulation of the sports of kickboxing and MMA.  He made a major impact on the fight sports industry and more importantly, he loved his wife, Toni and daughter, Fallyn Fossum.
God speed and rest in peace Master Steve!

My first encounter with Steve Fossum 31 years ago:
I was just 16 years old and had not fought yet or been in the industry. I rode with an older friend of mine to a kickboxing show in Bakersfield. I had never seen fights live. When we got there I was introduced to Steve. They did not have any tickets left. So Steve said "I have a spot for you" he then proceeded to sit me up at the ring next to the commission! He brought me a chocolate sundae and food. Ill never forget it at 16 I felt like a celebrity. Steve was an awesome man and I immediately respected and looked up to him. Years later I would have the honor of working with him and becoming friends. He has left his mark on so many of us. RIP Legend.

Mr. Fossum was a class act, a fantastic man, promoter, and husband/father to his family. When I first started fighting, Mr. Fossum gave me a shot with the IKF, and his promotion helped me build my career like so many others. Even though we were amateurs, his promotion treated us like pros. He had events all over the country, had professional style rankings, and packed the house at his shows. Thank you for creating the IKF, Mr. Fossum, and being the selfless promoter who made it about the show and the fighters.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with this man for the past decade. He was an incredible leader and a true advocate of kickboxing and Muay Thai community. He will be greatly missed by so many, our sports has truly lost a legend. Our prayers are with his family, we promise to keep your legacy alive Steve Fossum.

We made a promise to you that we were never going to let you down. And I have every intention to hold that promise until the day we reunite. Because I want to make you proud. 
Knowing you are never coming home again is a hard reality to realize. But something I have to continue to tell myself is that everything happens for a reason. We may never understand why God decided to take you away from us, but we know if you had the choice, you would want to be here with us. Daddy- I want you to know how proud we are of you. You were a fighter, all the way to the very end. I could not be more proud to be your daughter. I want you to know that with time, mom and I will be okay. Our hearts will never fully heal, but that is why our memories will forever fill that hole in our hearts.
Thank you for being the best daddy in the whole entire world.

how lucky we are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. 
they say that when you love someone, they never truly leave you when they are gone. I never understood what that meant until now. each and every day you give us signs that you are still here, even though we know in reality your presence is no more. it has only been three days, yet it feels like an eternity since God invited you to be a part of his kingdom. 
as I layed my head next to yours, and squeezed you as tight as I could, and said "I love you daddy", I felt you take your final breath, and I knew in that moment that you were happy. you were free. you had crossed the gates into heaven where I know your mom and dad ran to you with open arms. we may never understand why God decided he needed you to join him above, but one thing we do know is that you are now living in peace. grateful, honored, and blessed is how we feel knowing we got to be a part of your life. the memories we have made are ones we will cherish forever. you have influenced and changed so many lives for the better, especially ours. but our lives will never be the same again, knowing you won't be here to live through the rest of it with us. but we know that you will be right by our side through every journey we go through.

Steve I’m so sorry to see you go, I have always known you are a fighter, but I will forever remember you as an amazing mentor, a positive influencer, a kind soul, a jokester, a man of the world, a family man, a man that loves to surprise his girls and take them on many fun trips.  I will hold all of our conversations dear to my heart and forever hold on to the many adventures that I had with you and your family!  
To Toni Fossum your soulmate will always be near! You were always stronger then Steve, we all know who ran the show!  🥰
And to Fallyn Fossum you were so loved and your dad was so proud of you.  His legacy lives on through you!  You are the best part of your dad!

My sincere condolences to Steve's family. I have been blessed for the past 30 years to be a part of his Kickboxing and Muay Thai family... Such a great guy and visionary. In fact, tomorrow I am the Announcer for WCK show in San Diego which is Supervised by the IKF, which he co-founded and which will continue in his absence. He will be sorely missed and I would say that we will continue to miss his leadership and influence in the fight game in ways we have yet to realize. RIP Steve. ❤️🙏🙏
