Positive, pragmatic, humorous and caring, Michael never made an enemy in his life. He will be genuinely missed by his many friends and family.
Born in Chicago, IL on November 11, 1943, Michael was the eldest of four children of Jack W. Singleton, M.D., and M. Patricia Singleton (nee Smith). The family lived in Texas and Tennessee before moving to California in 1954 and settling in Hayward in 1959, where his father practiced pediatric medicine.
Michael graduated from Bishop O' Dowd High School in 1962 as a National Merit Finalist. He attended Boston College and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo before graduating with a degree in Political Science from Cal State Hayward, then continuing graduate studies at San Diego State.
Michael moved to Auburn with first wife June (Medley) and daughter Sarah in 1973 when he began his career at The Nikkel Corporation, building lumber mills and brokering equipment sales.
Following June's tragic death in 1974, he met Heidi Child and her son Casey, and they joined families in 1989.
Mike was best known for his lifelong interest in automobiles, which began in high school when he and a friend built a Ford Model A from scratch. For years, he owned a Model A, even driving it back to California after a sojourn in Greenwich Village. He soon graduated to sports cars, and this led him into racing at the amateur and professional levels.
As an encore career, Michael founded Sports Cars Ltd. in Rancho Cordova in 2002 where he specialized in the restoration of British sports cars. He was a longtime member and past president of the Sacramento Valley MG Car Club and member of the United British Sports Car Club.
Michael enjoyed his days skiing with the Fagowee Ski Club, drinking wine, and riding his tractor mower on his ranchette in Newcastle. Most of all he loved spending time with Heidi, Sarah, Casey and his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother Bill, he is survived by Heidi (Weber) Child, his loving wife of 28 years, his daughter Sarah Singleton, grandsons Zane and Zak Singleton, step-son Casey Child (Kristin), grandchildren Lucy and Ethan, sisters Anne Barrett (Woody) and Jill Singleton, sister-in-law Nancy Connelly, one niece, four nephews an aunt and many cousins.
A celebration of life for Michael will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 27th at the Chapel of the Hills in Auburn, CA. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center Research Fund in his honor.
Arrangements under the direction of Chapel of the Hills, Auburn, CA.
