A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Sally Chumley Pritchard, age 91 of Attalla, will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 4:00 P.M. at Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Earl Mitchell and Rev. Bobby Bryant officiating. A private family burial will follow at Bristow Cemetery.
Mrs. Pritchard passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Gadsden Health & Rehab. Sally was born January 26, 1932 in Duck Springs Community and died December 1, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, R. E. and Nannie Chumley, her husband, Ray Pritchard, her brother Rev. William Earl Chumley, brother-in-law Wayon Pritchard and sisters-in-law, Georgia Chumley and Pat Chumley.
She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Rush and husband William (Bill) Rush of Homewood and Sharon Walden and husband Wayne Walden of Rainbow City, one brother, Gerald Chumley of Gadsden and sister-in-law Lovella Pritchard or Argon, GA. She had one grandson, Evan Thomas and three granddaughters, Emily Pence and husband Tyler Pence, Kelly Watkins and husband Tracy Watkins, Jenny Williams and husband Tanner Williams. Sally was blessed to have three great-granddaughters Hannah Rae Pence, Abby Kay Watkins and Loralee Williams and one great-grandson Colton Watkins.
Sally was a graduate of Etowah High School and Alabama College (Montevallo). She received her M.A. Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Alabama and certification in adult education from Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky. She began her teaching career at West Elementary in Cullman in 1954. She taught at Duck Springs Elementary, Etowah High School, Attalla Elementary, Curtiston Elementary, Etowah Middle School and served as Assistant Principal at Stowers Hill Elementary.
Sally taught Adult Basic Education classes and conducted workshops throughout the state for the State Department of Education. She was elected Teacher of the Year in 1988-89. After 35 years in education, she retired and did volunteer work at Curtiston Elementary for several years. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Attalla, loved gardening and working in her yard with flowers.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 3:00 P.M. until service time at 4:00 P.M. at Morgan Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the First Baptist Church of Attalla.
