If you were still here, we would either be Turkey hunting or fishing or maybe both. Miss you my friend but will see you in heaven!

I remember him as "Kirkland" because we usually only use last names at the prison where we worked together. He was warm, friendly helpful and we shared the common interests of hunting, fishing, the beach and the woods. He, Emily and Curt became patients of mine and I could empathize with him on the pride of watching a son grow into a man. The love between him and Emily was a beautiful thing to see and they seemed perfectly suited for each other. Some of the Correctional Officer went on deep sea fishing trips together - tales I liked to hear about and wanted to be a part of someday. It's a tight brotherhood and I was honored beyond my hopes when they included me in a tuna fishing trip out of Venus, LA. I never knew there was about 90 miles of highway out from New Orleans which was below sea level and it's was weird to look out at the berm hiding back the sea on either side of you and seeing big boats on the water 20+ feet above you. The trip was a total success with everyone catching their limit. Those Tina fight all the way, even after they're in the boat. Ony second catch, my should have put and Kirkland offered to take over my rod and land it for me. I was glad to do so and my shoulder thanked him even more. Once he got his diagnosis we collaborated on his treatment and options and for a while it seemed progress was being made. But some bouts with pneumonia necessitating a pause in treatment led to the final outcome. I was at his house visiting with him and his family, left to go eat, and had barely gotten home when I got the call. I was relieved to find out on that final visit that he was ready when the call came and whenever his decision for Christ was made, he knew he was ready to end the suffering even though he hated to leave his love, Em, and the rest of his family behind. He loved them all, but I only knew Curt and the last time he was in my office we spent a lot of time talking about him, his love for and pride in him. I hope that in the quiet he may visit

I met David when I was 24 years old he was 26 we became very close friends for many years he was so smart and courageous and he was so funny he brought me so many laughs he was a very dear person in my life my thoughts and prayers go out to Curt and Emily rest in peace David.

Nothing I can say will ease your pain, but I am forever sorry for your losing of someone so special to you. Thank you for sharing David with me within this past year, it was an honor to be able to pray with you both. His smile just touched my heart as you did when we met.

Emily,  I am so sorry for your loss! Kirkland was a truly good man! He and I not only had a good working relationship,  but we were friends! We called each other "Wrap". It was never about the rank with us. I'll miss my "Wrap ". We loved him, but God loved him the most. Rest Easy "Wrap".
